The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Player of the Month for the final month of 2018 is Joseph Karpyshyn of the Calgary Mustangs. The hometown boy leads his Mustangs with 47 points (22G, 25A) after scoring 18 points (8G, 10A) in nine games through December 2018.
The 20 year-old forward is currently 6th in the AJHL Soring Race, averaging 1.3 points per game, and is riding a 6-game point streak to start the new year.
Karpyshyn opened December as the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the week of November 26th – December 2nd when he accumulated 8 points, a game winning goal, and two Star of the Game awards through three games during that time. He went on to pick up a second game winning goal in December, his 6th of the season, on December 19th in a 5-1 win over Olds.
Joseph would also earn two Viterra AJHL Star of the Game selections in December. The first came on December 2nd with a 3-point game (2G, 1A) as the Mustangs stole a 5-4 win from the Canmore Eagles. The next was in a 7-5 loss to the Okotoks Oilers on December 9th when Karpyshyn also posted 3 points (2G, 1A). Karpyshyn recorded five 3-point games in December
The Calgary Mustangs were 5-4-0 in December and ended 2018 on a four-game win streak.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League is pleased to partner with the Alberta Ford Dealers Association and will recognize the AJHL Player of the Month throughout the regular season. The AJHL and Ford also partner on the Alberta Ford Dealers Defensive Player of the Week.
