Sometimes, silence is golden and emphasizes the joy of the journey rather than the end result.
Fort McMurray Oil Barons coach and general manager Gord Thibodeau was on the team bus Thursday evening, travelling to Spruce Grove for Game 1 of the Alberta Junior Hockey League Northern Division final against the Saints when he was asked for a personal reflection of a notable achievement, but chose not to address it.
The veteran coach was answering a series of email questions.
One specifically asked him to describe the feeling he had in 2006 when he won his first, and only, AJHL championship.
He left it blank.
“The championships are nice, but you always remember the long playoff runs,” said Thibodeau.
Gauging from Friday’s tilt against the Saints, Thibodeau is in for another long post-season odyssey.
