KERNAGHAN, HENNESSEY AND MALINOSKI EARN AJHL WEEKLY AWARDS

The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Daniel Kernaghan of the Drayton Valley Thunder.  The 2002-born forward scored four goals and recorded six points in three games to extend his active point streak to four games and 11 points.

Daniel Kernaghan (Calgary, AB) recorded his second hat trick of the month with three goals and an assist on February 24^th as the Thunder defeated the Grande Prairie Storm 8-4 in a road win.  Kernaghan was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game.  On February 21^st, Daniel scored a goal in a 5-2 loss to the division leading Spruce Grove Saints and also added an assist in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Grande Prairie Storm on February 25^th.

The Thunder Captain leads his team with 72 points (31G, 41A) in his third AJHL season and is tied for seventh overall in the AJHL Scoring Race.

Blackfalds Bulldogs goalie, Matthew Hennessey, is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week after recording back-to-back shutouts.  The Bulldogs are enjoying a six-game win streak while Hennessey has recorded wins in his last five starts.

Matthew Hennessey (Warman, SK) stopped all 19 shots on goal to shut down the Sherwood Park Crusaders 4-0 on February 20^th.  The 2002-born goaltender made 24 saves on February 25^th in a 3-0 shutout win over the Drumheller Dragons.

Hennessey has recorded four shutouts this season, and holds a record of 25-12-0-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL).  His 2.69 GAA ranks him fourth in the AJHL.  This is Matthew’s second Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Blackfalds Bulldogs sit second in the Viterra AJHL South Division entering the 2023 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs.

For a second consecutive week, and third time this season, the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week is Brooks Bandits forward Hudson Malinoski.  The 2023 AJHL Rookie of the Year finalist and Providence College commit led all rookies from February 20^th-26^th, 2023 with five points (1G, 4A) in three games.

Malinoski (Saskatoon, SK) recorded an assist in a tight 2-1 victory versus the Drumheller Dragons on February 20^th and added another assist in a 4-2 win over the Okotoks Oilers on February 24^th.  With the win, the Brooks Bandits clinched home ice advantage throughout the playoffs as the regular season champions.

The 2004 Bandit forward scored a goal and two assists to close the week on February 25^th in another 4-2 win versus Okotoks.  Malinoski has compiled a six-game point streak totaling 14 points.  He is tied for 11^th overall in the AJHL Scoring Race and 3^rd amongst rookies with 66 points (14G, 52A).
