Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats are thrilled to announce Kolby Thornton has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey with Aurora University.
“Kolby was a big part of our organization for the past two years, his hard work and dedication paid off this season in the blue paint. He was an outstanding goaltender for us every night he was in the net,” stated Bobcats Head Coach and General Manager Nigel Dube. “His hard work on and off the ice was recognized by the league when he was awarded the Top AJHL Goalie, it also spoke to how he was a great teammate and the players in front of him played for him every night.”
Thornton played in 43 regular season games this season and posted a 26-13-2 record while having a .913 save percentage and 3.15 goals against. He was named the Alberta Junior Hockey Leagues Top Goaltender as well named to the Alberta Junior Hockey League All-League Team for the Viterra North Division. Thornton led the AJHL in games played by a goalie and was fifth in the entire league for save percentage.
Thornton is excited about his future with Aurora University, “Coming off my best personal season I am looking forward to the next chapter. I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, billet, the Lloydminster Bobcats organization and everyone else who has made this opportunity possible.”
The Lloydminster Bobcats would like to congratulate the Thornton family on his commitment to the Aurora University. Thornton becomes the fourth commitment this season for the Bobcats joining Ethan Aucoin (St. Cloud State), Tegan Skehar (University of Alaska Fairbanks), and Zafir Rawji (MRU – Usport).
