The Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League have publicly acknowledged that they have accepted a letter of intent by a group based in Whitecourt, Alberta to purchase the AJHL franchise. Prior to these recent events, the Bobcats had granted to the City of Lloydminster an assignable 60-day right of first refusal which allows the City (or any other group to whom the City transfers this right) 60-days to match any offer for the Bobcats franchise. In connection with the right of first refusal, additional groups from the Lloydminster area have contacted the Bobcat’s ownership group and AJHL Executive expressing their interest in purchasing the organization. This right to match the offer put forward by the group based in Whitecourt expires on March 24, 2011
As per AJHL Bylaws, any change in the ownership of a franchise requires the approval of the board of governors. Upon being informed of the letter of intent, the board formed a committee to monitor developments in Lloydminster and to report back to the board. This committee, along with the AJHL Executive, will continue to monitor events as the process moves forward. At such time as the board determines, the board will evaluate all proposals with respect to the sale of the Bobcats.
