As The Tampa Bay Lightning travel tomorrow to San Jose for a meeting with The Sharks, JT Wyman and Evan Oberg are getting ready to make the trip as well. Today Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced the recall of the two prospects from The Lightning’s AHL team, The Norfolk Admirals.
This will not be the first time that Evan Oberg has been called up to Tampa. On December 2nd Tampa traded James Wright and Mike Vernace for Oberg and Mike Kostka from The Florida Panthers. In that short amount of time, this will be the fourth time that he’s been recalled, however, he has not yet seen a game with The Lightning. He has, however, played in four NHL career games with The Vancouver Canucks.
The six foot tall, one hundred ninety-one pound defenseman has played six games with The Admirals this season, assisting in three goals. He played twelve games with the San Antonio Rampage , The Panther’s AHL affiliate, before being traded. In those games he had two assists and fourteen penalty minutes. He has seen a total of one hundred and thirty-one AHL career games between the Admirals, the Rampage, the Rochester Americans, and the Manitoba Moose. He has also been in five Calder Cup play-off games.
Oberg played for the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he spent two seasons after spending his junior career with the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL. He went undrafted and was signed as a free agent by Vancouver in April of 2009.
