The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Nathan Maloney (Quinnipiac University) of the Calgary Canucks. The 18 year-old rookie defenceman extended his point streak to six games with six points (3G, 3A) in back to back wins on home ice.
Nathan Maloney (Strathmore, AB) scored a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on February 8th, then recorded a four-point (2G, 2A) game the next afternoon as the Canucks extended their win streak to five games with a 7- 1 final over the Bobcats. Maloney was selected as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in both contests.
This is Maloney’s third consecutive AJHL Weekly Award – he was previously named the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week for January 20th-26th and the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week for January 27th-February 2nd.
Maloney leads all rookie defencemen with 30 points (12G, 18A) in 35 games played. The Calgary Canucks lead the AJHL in goals for (188) and are second in the Viterra AJHL South Division with 10 games remaining.
Drumheller Dragons goaltender Matthew Kondro is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week with a 2-0 record and a shutout during February 3rd-9th, 2025.
Kondro (Red Deer Rebels) shut down the league-leading Canmore Eagles with 37 saves and a 5-1 win on home ice to open the weekend on February 7th. He followed up his performance with a 23-save shutout to earn the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game with a 5-0 victory against the visiting Lloydminster Bobcats the following night.
The 17-year-old rookie from St Albert, AB has won his last three starts alongside a six-game winning streak by the Dragons. Drumheller is fourth in the Viterra AJHL South Division and currently hold the last playoff spot.
The Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week is forward Alec Hall with a hat trick and six points for the Grande Prairie Storm.
Alex Hall (2006) scored his first AJHL hat trick on February 7th and added three assists for a six-point game in a 14-2 win in Devon vs the Xtreme. Hall is eighth overall among AHL rookies with 33 points (17G, 16A) in 40 games played. This is Hall’s third selection as Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week in the 2024-25 season.
The Grande Prairie Strom are second in the Viterra AJHL North Division and have 14 games remaining, the most of all AJHL teams.
