MARCUS CUMBERWORTH COMMITS TO BUFFALO STATE

The Olds Grizzlys are proud to announce that 21-year old goaltender Marcus Cumberworth has committed to Buffalo State University for the 2023-24 season.  Buffalo State University is located in Buffalo, New York.  The Bengals are a NCAA Division III program who play in the highly competitive State University of New York Athletic Conference.

Cumberworth played most of his junior career with the Richmond Sockeyes of the PIJHL.  The Grizzlys acquired Cumberworth mid-way through the 2022-23 campaign via the trade route.  The 6’2” 175 pound product of Surrey, British Columbia immediately solidified the goaltending position for the Grizzlys.

Head Coach Scott Atkinson had this to say about Cumberworth, “I’m very excited for Marcus, he is a shining example of a player sticking with the process.  The fact that he played nearly three and a half years at the Junior B level before getting his chance in Junior A is the classic underdog story.  But I knew right away he was a player with a future, he has professional preparation habits and he competes hard on every puck.  Buffalos State is getting, not only a very good goaltender, but also a very good leader.  I think he will make an immediate impact for the Bengals, like he did for us here in Olds.  We are very proud that Marcus was a Grizzly, he is emblematic of the type of person and player we are looking for to fill our roster.  I couldn’t be happier for him he’s earned this opportunity.

The entire Grizzlys organization would like to congratulate Marcus and his family on his achievement.
