Drumheller, AB – The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in partnership with The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) have awarded Markus Boguslavsky of the Drumheller Dragons as the 2019 RBC Community Ambassador. Jennifer Dickson of RBC presented the award to Markus at the Drumheller Dragons Annual Awards Night on Saturday.
RBC Future Launch is a 10-year, $500 million commitment to helping young people access the skills, experience, networks and knowledge they need to truly embrace their fullest potential. This commitment to youth – and community – led to the introduction of the RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador Program. This program was designed to provide young athletes with the opportunity to enhance their skill sets for their future beyond their hockey career, as well as an opportunity to engage with their communities while providing some much-needed funding to support community driven programs.
Throughout the season, each AJHL team nominated one player to become the RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador, in recognition of their exemplary commitment to the community. The RBC Community Award is awarded to one RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador who has fully embraced the role throughout the season and continued their impactful work in the community.
The Drumheller Dragons selected team captain, Markus Boguslavsky, as their ambassador for the 2018-19 season and as a result, RBC provided a $1,000 donation to the Drumheller Valley Family and Community Support Services on Markus’s behalf.
Markus is a leader both on and off the ice. He values community, family, and respect. He treats everyone he meets in the community with care and provides them with his undivided attention. Whether it’s through his public speaking engagements, his involvement in community awareness campaigns, or by joining the minor hockey teams for their practices, Markus approaches everything he does with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
During his time as the RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador, Markus helped organize four different volunteer opportunities that allowed his fellow teammates and RBC employees to give back. This included volunteering at the Town of Drumheller’s Festival of Lights and Unplugged events, helping out with the Salvation Army Food Drive, and spending time at the Drumheller and District Seniors Foundation. Since RBC employees were involved at each of these opportunities, RBC was also able to make a $1,000 donation to each registered charity through the RBC’s employee volunteer program.
In addition to the $5,000 RBC has donated to various organizations in the Drumheller community based on Markus’s involvement, an additional $2,500 donation will be made to the Drumheller Valley Family & Community Support Services on behalf of Markus and his exceptional work as the recipient of the 2019 RBC & AJHL Community Ambassador.
