A friendly bet has been made between the leaders of the two communities battling for the AJHL Enerflex Cup, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.
The losing Mayor will have to sport the winning team’s jersey at the first Council meeting held after the conclusion of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons-Brooks Bandits series. Acting Mayor Councilor Sheldon Germain accepted on behalf of Mayor Melissa Blake, who is out of town.
“Mayor Martin Shields contacted us with the idea noting that it was a fun way to build community pride,” said Councillor Germain. “Not only did we agree, but we also thought he would look good in an Oil Barons jersey.”
Germain continued: “Our community is very proud of the MOB. They represented Canada in Russia, had a great regular season, and have battled through some tough playoff games. They’ve done an excellent job capturing the Big Spirit of our region and I’m looking forward to an exciting series. Go Barons!”
