Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are pleased to announce that former Crusaders forward Jacob Franczak (2000) has committed to the Long Island University Sharks for the 2020-21 season.
“Jacob (Franczak) was a key piece in the Cru organization both on and off the ice,” said General Manager Kyle Chase. “He’s a complete player with loads of character and compete.”
Long Island University, located in Brooklyn, New York, is the newest NCAA Division I program. The Sharks are coached by Brett Riley who was most recently an assistant coach at Colgate University.
Franczak signed with the Crusaders in July 2016 and played 159 games over three seasons scoring 90 points (34 goals, 56 assists). Last season, the Edmonton native scored a career-high 18 goals and 43 points in 53 games. He was also named an alternate captain for the team.
Franczak is the eleventh Crusader from the 2019/20 team to earn a post-secondary commitment, joining Arjun Atwal (University of Calgary) Jacob Kendall (Red Deer College), Carter Gylander (Colgate University), Ty Mueller (University of Nebraska-Omaha), Jarred White (University of Alabama-Huntsville), Will Zapernick (University of Vermont), Max Wutzke (Hamilton College), Reid Irwin, Carter Savoie, and Michael Benning (University of Denver).
The Crusaders wish to congratulate Jacob and his family on this outstanding achievement and wish him the best of luck in the future.
