The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce that 17 year old Ian Mitchell has committed to play for the University of Denver. The University of Denver Pioneers are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). Ian joined the Saints from the St. Albert Midget AAA Raider Hockey Program. In his 1st year in the AJHL, Ian has played in 60 games, scoring 7 goals and 24 assists for 31 points.
“As an elite level talented player, Ian has grown his game tremendously throughout his first season here in Spruce Grove,” states Saints Head Coach Jason McKee. “His ability to read the play and his hockey IQ will help Ian excel at the next level. We look forward to continue to work with Ian to make him a complete player and his eventual departure to the NCAA.”
“I am very excited to commit to the University of Denver and am eager to be part of their program in the upcoming years. I would like to thank coach McKee along with the entire Saints organization for giving me the opportunity to succeed and play in my first year of junior hockey, ” says Mitchell. “I would also like to thank my family and friends for supporting me throughout my young hockey career. I look forward to continuing to develop my game here with the Saints and hopefully help bring another championship to Spruce Grove.”
The Saints organization would like to congratulate Ian and his family on this step in his career, and wish him continued success moving forward, both athletically and academically.
