MVP Maclise Saves Banditsâ?? Season With OT Winner in Okotoks

t’s what MVPs do.

Cam Maclise corralled a rebound and slid the puck through the legs of Okotoks Oilers goalie Jared D’Amico at 2:49 of overtime to save the Brooks Bandits’ record-breaking season on Sunday night.

Maclise, the award recipient for best player in the Alberta Junior Hockey League this season, silenced the mostly pro-Oilers Okotoks crowd and gave the Bandits a 3-2 win to force Game 7 in the South Division final series.

“In overtime with the game and the series on the line, (it’s fitting) for your best guy to score,” said Bandits head coach Ryan Papaioannou from a jubilant Brooks team bus, which is headed home where the team will prepare for Game 7 on Tuesday (7 p.m., Centennial Regional Arena).

“It’s definitely a monkey off our back to get to Game 7. It’s been a tough series for us.”
