The Grande Prairie Storm are pleased to announce that 20 year old Drew Nikirk has committed to MacEwan University in Edmonton for the 2014-15 season.
Nikirk, a 1993-born, 6’1” 199 pound defenseman from Invermere BC appeared in 91 games for the Storm in the past two seasons, scoring 2 goals, and adding 14 assists with 108 penalty minutes.
“Drew has been an integral part of our defensive core the last two seasons, in 2012-2013 he was voted our Most Improved Player, and despite an injury shortened season this year, continually proved his value in the room with our guys, and of course when he returned to the lineup with his on ice contributions” said Head Coach Matt Hughes.
At MacEwan, Nikirk will play for the Griffins Head Coach Bram Stephen. “MacEwan University men's hockey is excited to have Drew joining our program for the 2014-15 season. Drew is a team player who demonstrates a strong work ethic and competitive level when playing the game that should fit in well with the culture of our hockey program.”
The Grande Prairie Storm would like to congratulate Drew and his family on his accomplishment, and wish him the best of luck in his future athletic and academic endeavours.
