Oil Barons Shattler Commits to Portage College

Fort McMurray, AB (August 28, 2017) – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are excited to announce that Toby Shattler (Fort McMurray, AB) has committed to attend and play for the Portage College Voyageurs of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), starting this season.

Shattler, 21, was acquired by the MOB in an October 28, 2016 trade with the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Appearing in 25 games with the MOB last year, Shattler registered nine points (seven goals, two assists).

“Toby came in as a 20-year-old last year and brought a tremendous amount of leadership and experience to our hockey club,” said MOB Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.

“He’s a heart and soul player that does all of the little things on the ice to help his team win. As a McMurrayite and an Oil Baron, we’re happy for him and wish him all the best at Portage College.”

Shattler is the fifth Oil Baron from last year’s team to commit to a post-secondary institution, joining teammates Brandon Ralph (NAIT – ACAC), Jackson McKinstry (SAIT – ACAC), Stefan Wood (SAIT – ACAC), and Will Conley (Holy Cross – NCAA Div. 1).
