Oiler Bacon Commits to Bentley University

The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that Derek Bacon has committed to the Bentley University Falcons. Bentley University is based in Waltham, Massachusetts and plays in the Atlantic Hockey Conference of NCAA Division 1.

Bacon, a 20-year old forward from Calgary joined the Oilers in his last season of junior hockey after playing for the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL, and St. Albert Steel of the AJHL, in his previous two seasons. In 33 games played this season with the Oilers he recorded 13 goals, 28 assists and 41 points. Bacon assumed the captain role in December after coming back from an injury in the first week of the Regular season Bacon’s perseverance & leadership this season led him to be awarded with the Stewy Stewart Memorial Trophy which is awarded to the South Division player best exhibiting character, dedication, perseverance, integrity and sportsmanship.

Bacon joins teammate Tyler Krause who is also committed to the Bentley University Falcons. Bacon is the 5th Oiler off this year’s roster committed to a Division 1 NCAA program joining Krause, Rhett Holland, Robert Hamilton and Jonathan Turk.
