Oilers Announce New GM / Coach

The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce James Poole, to the position of GM/Head Coach of the Okotoks Oilers Hockey Club effective immediately.

James, who is from Calgary, Alberta played his minor hockey in the Calgary Buffalo Association, graduating from the Calgary Buffalo AAA Midget team to the Junior ‘A’ ranks where he earned a hockey scholarship to Lake Forest University, in Chicago, Illinois, completing his business degree in 2000. Upon returning to Calgary James began his coaching career with the Buffalo Association and succeeded rapidly to become the Head Coach, of the Calgary Buffalo Midget AAA team, a position he held for the last 3 years. During his tenure as the Buffaloes coach, his bench leadership led the team to 2 National Midget AAA Telus Cup berths finishing 2nd in 2009 and 4th in 2008. His teams have always been at or near the top of the standings, and in 2010 he was awarded the distinction of being named the Alberta Midget Hockey League “Coach of the Year Award”.

Okotoks Oilers, President, Wayne Lauinger stated, “We feel very fortunate to have been able to secure James as our GM/Head Coach. He is one of the most respected and successful coaches at the midget AAA level. We are thrilled to have James join our program and believe he is the person that can take it to the next level.”
