Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are proud to announce that 1997 born forward and 2017-18 Team Captain, Carter Huber (Calgary, AB) has committed to the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks.
Located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the Fighting Hawks play in the NCAA’s National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under third year Head Coach Brad Berry. The storied hockey program has won 11 conference championships, participated in a record 37 NCAA Tournaments, 22 of them in the Frozen Four and eight NCAA Championships.
Huber, 20, in his 3rd and Senior season with the Oilers has had a career year donning the green and gold where he’s registered 57 points, (24 goals, 23 assists) in 54 games including ten power play goals and three short-handed goals. This is Huber’s second season as member of the Oilers leadership group where he was an alternate captain in the 2016-17 season before becoming the team’s 14th captain in franchise history and was recently named to the AJHL’s All-Academic Team.
Oilers Head Coach & Director of Hockey Development Tyler Deis says it’s been a memorable season for what Carter has achieved since signing with the Oilers for the 2015-16 season. “Carter is the definition of a true leader, his captaincy and dedication to the Oilers both on and off the ice has been incredible in the two seasons I’ve been around him. This season Carter has shown what he can do at both ends of the ice playing big minutes in all situations whether in the power play, penalty kill or vital 5 on 5 play.”
Huber is the 5th Oiler in franchise history to suit up for the Fighting Hawks, as he’ll join former Oiler Rhett Gardner next season.
“I’m extremely honored and grateful for the opportunity to live out my dreams at the University of North Dakota,” Huber says. “The support I’ve received throughout my life and hockey career has been vital in getting me to this point, and I want to thank everyone who has believed in me along the way.”
The Oilers would like to congratulate Carter and his family on his achievements both on and off the ice. We are thankful for his dedication to the organization and in the community
