Oilers Quinn Olson Drafted by Boston Bruins

Okotoks Oilers Forward Quinn Olson (Calgary, AB) has become the second highest Oiler to ever be selected at the National Hockey League Draft.

At the 2019 edition of the NHL Entry Draft at Rogers Arena, Olson was selected in the 3rd Round by the Boston Bruins as the 92nd overall selection.  Olson is the 8th Okotoks Oiler to be drafted into the NHL.

The 18 year-old completed his sophomore season with the organization where he finished 11th in league scoring and ended the season ranked 105th in North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting heading into the draft.

The 2001 born forward had 66 points (20 goals, 46 assists) in 54 Alberta Junior Hockey League games, he added 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) in 13 AJHL playoff games helping lead the Oilers to a third consecutive appearance in the South Final.

Olson is committed to the two-time defending NCAA Champion Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in the ever competitive NCHC Conference.

Oilers Head Coach / General Manager / Director of Hockey Development Tyler Deis says the honour couldn?t have gone to a better player and an even better person.

?When Quinn came into our fall camp two years ago, we knew we had something special when he made our team as a 16 year old.”  ?Our organization couldn?t be prouder of Quinn?s contributions not only with our on-ice success, but also his dedication off the ice to being a role model in the community.  We congratulate Quinn and the Olson family on his success, he?s earned it and it?s well deserved.?

The Calgary native?s career line with the Green & Gold in 113 regular season games accumulated 119 points (34 goals, 85 assists) and in 28 playoff games, and additional 25 points (6 goals, 19 assists).

Olson, who is in Calgary training for the upcoming hockey season, says he?s excited for the next step in his career.

?To wear an original six jersey and be a part of the Bruins organization is a dream come true,? Olson says. ?I know there is more hard work ahead for me to reach that goal of playing in the NHL.  I wouldn?t be here without the support of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and everyone surrounding the Oilers organization. Okotoks has welcomed me with open arms and has given me every opportunity to succeed at a high caliber level.?

Olson joins Oiler alumni Jacob Bernard-Docker (2018, Ottawa Senators), Austin Wong (2018, Winnipeg Jets), Rhett Gardner (2015, Dallas Stars), Rhett Holland (2012, Arizona Coyotes), Derek Rodwell (2009, New Jersey Devils), Corban Knight (2009, Florida Panthers) and Brad Eidsness (2007, Buffalo Sabres) drafted into the NHL.

The Oilers organization congratulates Quinn and the Olson family for this incredible achievement. We would like to thank Quinn for his team involvement both on and off the ice, as well as his dedication to our organization and the Okotoks and surrounding community with class and professionalism.

Olson will be in attendance at the Bruins development camp next week.
