Okotoks Oilers Reflect on First Half

The Okotoks Oilers have put themselves in good standing heading into the second half of their season.

The Oilers are currently sitting in a tie for second place in the AJHL's South Division and are only two points back of the first place Brooks Bandits.

Head Coach and General Manager James Poole says, “I think we started off the season, record wise, on a really strong note, but I think that was kind of masked by some really good goaltending from Jared D'Amico. And I think when we got I'd say as average goaltending, I think we came back down to Earth. As of late I think our play has really picked up.”,

Okotoks has won seven of their past nine games, but have struggled against two opponents in the Calgary Mustangs and Drumheller Dragons.

Poole has said that he expects better results against these division rivals, especially as the title race heats up near the end of the regular season.

Poole also says he has been impressed with how well his team has gelled together. “We have got a really tight-knit group right now that really cares about each other and has that team-family atmosphere to it. So, when you have that in place I think you definitely give yourself a chance for success because when you have that team first mentality and good chemistry, I think it's one of the building blocks of success.”

The Oilers are off until January 3rd when they will travel to Camrose to face the Kodiaks.
