Okotoks Oilers Vow to ‘Bear’ Down

The Okotoks Oilers are looking for a little revenge.

Sure, the Oilers finished 30 points ahead of the Olds Grizzlys in the AJHL regular-season standings.

But they won’t take it easy on the bears in their best-of-five first-round playoff series.

Oilers GM/head coach James Poole will be reminding his players what happened a year ago when the best-of-five series kicks off Wednesday in Okotoks (7 p.m.).

Elsewhere, the Calgary Mustangs open their best-of-five series Wednesday against the host Camrose Kodiaks (7:30 p.m.).

“They were somewhat of an underdog against us last year, and they knocked us out,” said Poole of the Grizzlys. “It’s a similar situation. We had had good success against them during the regular season. But they’re a hard-working club, and their bread and butter is on the forecheck.”

The Oilers (38-18-4) went 6-0 against the Grizzlys (22-32-6) this season, although the last two were decided in overtime and a shootout respectively.

Poole doesn’t put much stock in his club’s perfect record against the Grizzlys.
