The Inter Pipeline AJHL Player of the Week is Bjorn Robinson of the Whitecourt Wolverines. With 4 points (2G, 2A) in two games, the 20-year-old alternate captain led his team to a now three-game win streak over the weekend.
The Wolverines handed a 6-2 defeat to the Grande Prairie Storm on Saturday with a goal and 2 assists from Robinson. The Edmonton, AB centre lit the goal lamp again on Sunday with the game winner in a 4-3 victory versus the Drayton Valley Thunder. Bjorn also earned Sunday’s Viterra Star of the Game Award for the first time this season.
Camrose Kodiaks forward, Carson Whyte, is the Merit Contractors AJHL Rookie of the Week. The native of Regina, SK sits third in team scoring after more than doubling his season point total with a 4-point game on Sunday.
Whyte, 18, recorded 4 assists in a 7-1 win over the Drumheller Dragons to close the weekend with two consecutive wins for the Kodiaks. Carson is tied for fifth in scoring among AJHL rookies with 7 points (1G, 6A).
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Brendan Wang of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The rookie defenceman posted 4 points in two Oil Barons wins versus the Spruce Grove Saints from March 26th-28th.
Wang (Burnaby, BC) had two assists on Friday night, including an assist on the game winning goal in a 10-4 triumph of the Saints. The 19-year-old then assisted on two of the four Oil Baron goals on Sunday to mark their fifth consecutive win with a 4-1 final.
Wang is second in scoring among AJHL rookies with 9 points (1G, 8A) and has committed to Princeton University of the NCAA Division I.
