Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines are proud to announce that graduating goaltender Xavier Potvin has committed to the St. Mary’s University Huskies (USPORTS).

Potvin, a product of Austin, Quebec, is coming off his first and only season in the AJHL after spending two previous seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

This past year, Potvin set franchise records for games played, minutes played, shots faced and saves made by a Wolverine goaltender as he went 25-14-6 with a 2.29 goals against average, a .915 save percentage and 4 shutouts.  For his efforts, he was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player, nominated for the league’s Goaltender of the Year award and was selected to the North Division All-League team.

The St. Mary’s Huskies are coached by Trevor Stienburg who has been behind the Huskies bench for more than two decades.  He guided the team to their first and only National Championship in 2010.  The Huskies are consistently a top-ranked team in the Atlantic University Sport conference of USPORTS.

Potvin will join fellow Wolverine alumnus John Mullally on the Huskies roster.

The entire Whitecourt Wolverines organization would like to congratulate Xavier and his family on his selection of St. Mary’s University for his college experience and wish him all the best in his academics and athletics.

Xavier is the fifth player on this year’s roster to earn a college commitment:

  • Liam Motley – Cornell University
  • Tyr Thompson – University of Alabama-Huntsville
  • Jaedon Leslie – Ohio State University
  • Estian Coetzee – Southern Alberta Institute of Technology
  • Xavier Potvin – St. Mary’s University
