ROSS, LANG & HUTCHINSON OPEN SEASON AS WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week for the opening weekend of the 2023-24 AJHL Season is Blackfalds Bulldogs forward Brendan Ross.  In the first two games of the new season, Ross scored three goals and recorded five points in two victories for the Bulldogs.

Ross (Calgary, AB) tallied one assist in a 5-2 win over the Olds Grizzlys on September 15th, then scored a hat trick and added another assist in a 5-3 victory versus the Drayton Valley Thunder on September 16th.   The 2003-born forward is starting his third season with the Bulldogs and is committed to University of Alaska Fairbanks (NCAA Div I).

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Adam Lang of the Spruce Grove Saints.  The 2005-born defenceman recorded five assists over two games for the Saints.   Forward teammate Ashton Hutchinson (2005) is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week with two goals and four points to open the season.

Hutchinson (St Albert, AB) scored two goals, including the game winning goal, on September 15th and added an assist in the 5-2 win over the visiting Grande Prairie Storm.  Lang (Sherwood Park, AB) collected four assists in the game with an assist on Hutchinson’s game winner.  On September 16th, Adam Lang recorded his fifth assist of the weekend and Ashton Hutchinson added another, but the Saints fell 4-3 to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
