The Spruce Grove Saints made quite a statement to open their 2016 Alberta Junior Hockey League championship run.
After receiving a first-round bye in the playoffs, the defending AJHL champions cruised to a 8-1 dismantling of their bitter rival Sherwood Park Crusaders Friday night in Game 1 of their best-of-seven North Division semifinal series at Grant Fuhr Arena.
Playing their first game in 19 days, the Saints showed absolutely no signs of rust as they got goals from seven different goal scorers.
