They say playoffs are a whole different season and the Drayton Valley Thunder are proof positive of that.
The Thunder disposed of the nationally-ranked Lloydminster Bobcats in three straight games in the opening round of the AJHL playoffs, after finishing 24 points behind the ‘Cats in the regular season.
What the upset means is that the Spruce Grove Saints will now play the Thunder in the North semi-final round.
Grove coach Jason McKee said nothing in playoff hockey surprises him and that Drayton fully deserved their victory over Lloydminster.
