Calgary, AB ? The Calgary Mustangs are proud to announce that defenseman Scott Nicholson has committed to the Lake Forest College Foresters of the NCAA Division III’s Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Conference.
Nicholson, who had his happy 21st birthday yesterday on May 13th, joined the Mustangs September 2018 after spending parts of the past 3 seasons playing for the Calgary Canucks. In 55 games played, Scott scored 3 goals and set a career-high for assists in a season with 19, to go along with 39 minutes in penalties. In 5 playoff games, he added 1 assist. Nicholson was also named the recipient of the Mustangs’ 2018-19 Leadership Award for his role in helping the Mustangs to one of their most successful seasons in team history, in addition to being named to the AJHL’s 2019 Inter Pipeline All-Academic Team.
“Scott was a pickup that paid off huge,” says assistant coach Josh Watson of the gritty but clean defender. “He quickly became an integral part in not only our defensive core but also our leadership group.”
“Scott will be a great addition to Lake Forest’s team, they’re adding a true character player that is the full package on and off the ice.”
Nicholson is the first Mustang to officially commit to a postsecondary institution this summer. In 171 career regular season AJHL games over a span of 4 seasons, the dependable blueliner recorded 8 goals and 36 assists for 44 points in addition to just 91 penalty minutes, with an additional 18 playoff appearances. A native of Calgary and a product of the Calgary Royals Minor Hockey Association, “Scotty” will join the Foresters program beginning in the 2019-20 academic year.
On behalf of the Calgary Mustangs, we will miss Scott’s contributions on and off the ice and wish him and the Foresters organization the best of luck as he begins his postsecondary studies with Lake Forest!
