OKOTOKS, AB — The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are thrilled to announce that 2004-born forward Jack Silverberg (Sherwood Park, AB) has committed to attend and play for Dartmouth College.
Located in Hanover, New Hampshire, the Big Green compete in the NCAA’s Division I ECAC Hockey conference under third year head coach Reid Cashman.
“This is a well-earned opportunity for Jack and a reflection of his hard work both on and off the ice,” said Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis. “In just a short time with our team, Jack has been an offensive catalyst and a consistent contributor to our team. We’re looking forward to continuing his progress and development with our team as he gets ready for the move to Division I hockey.”
Silverberg, 18, joined the Oilers in late September after the team acquired his CJHL rights in a prior trade with the Drayton Valley Thunder. In 11 games, he has so far recorded 9 points (4 goals, 5 assists), including a three-game goal scoring streak against Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, and Brooks.
It’s the 5’9″, 165lb forward’s third year in the AJHL; he amassed 54 points in 97 regular season games over two seasons with Drayton Valley, adding 10 points in 15 postseason games in the Thunder’s 2022 playoff run. He was the team’s fifth-highest scorer last season, and third-highest in points per game.
Originally recruited out of OHA Edmonton, where he served as team captain in 2019-20, Silverberg was the Thunder’s nominee for the AJHL’s All-Academic Team in both seasons that he played for them.
Former Oiler team captain Tucker McRae is the next most recent Oiler to commit to Dartmouth, as he enters his second season with the team.
Silverberg is the 8th Oiler on the current roster committed to an NCAA Division I school, and the first to commit in the 2023-24 season, joining:
