When the streak began on Sept. 6 with a 3-2 third period comeback win against the Spruce Grove Saints, no one could’ve predicted how the next 36 days would turn out for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
From overtime victories to 9-0 beat downs, the MOB found different ways to win each night, totalling 14 victories in a row that started with a 3-2 victory over the Saints on Sept. 6 and concluded with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Olds Grizzlys on Oct. 12.
On Sunday, the Saints put an end to things as Parker Mackay scored in the third round to give Spruce Grove its first win in three tries against the MOB this year.
“It’s kind of a bittersweet thing,” said head coach Gord Thibodeau on Monday.
