Taner Miller Awarded Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship

Fort McMurray Oil Barons Captain Taner Miler is the recipient of the 2019 Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship.  Taner was presented with the $1,500 scholarship in a pre-game ceremony at tonight’s AJHL playoff game in Fort McMurray by Inter Pipeline Senior Operations Technician Brad Bingham.

The Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship Program rewards one current AJHL player with a scholarship towards their post-secondary education at the conclusion of each season.  The scholarship is awarded to the player deemed most deserving among the sixteen applicants (one per AJHL team) based on their proven qualities in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and citizenship.

Oil Barons General Manager / Head Coach Tom Keca was honoured to nominate Taner for the award.  “I have had the unbelievable pleasure of coaching Taner Miller over the last four years with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Being a coach in this league for 17 years, there are obviously players that will leave a lasting impression on you – none will be bigger and more profound than the imprint Taner has left not only on me, but the entire Oil Baron organization.”

“Taner is a positive role model for the rest of our team to look up to and his dedication to the team, both on the ice and off is great. Whether it is performing our off-ice dryland training, organizing team functions, or taking charge in the dressing room, he feels comfortable in all situations. He is heavily involved with Minor Hockey, both school systems, and the many charities we assist throughout the year.  Taner is always a reliable and energetic participant.”

“On the ice, Taner is consistently one of the hardest working players. He is valuable, not just because he has the ability to put up points, but because he does all the little things necessary to become successful. His work ethic is contagious and he is respected not only by his teammates, but by his opponents as well. He is an individual that makes our team better right now, but will also make our team culture better for the players that have had the privilege of playing with him now and in the future.”

“Taner Miller has made his teammates better, the coaching staff better, and has had a positive influence on the Fort McMurray Oil Baron organization. He will most definitely go down as one of the best leaders in our long and storied organization.”
