The Drumheller Dragons are very excited to announce that 20-year-old forward Jordan Taupert has committed to MacEwan University for the 2019-2020 season. The Griffins play in the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) and were recently crowned Men’s Hockey Champions for the third straight season.
Taupert recently completed his third full season with the Dragons and his fifth season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Traded to Drumheller from the Drayton Valley Thunder, the 5’8” dynamic forward from Medicine Hat graduates from Junior Hockey with many individual accomplishments. Taupert became the second all-time leader in AJHL history for games played, with 292 games, one back of the current leader Brock Michalsky. Taupert will go down as one of the greatest Dragons of all time. He currently holds franchise records for most goals scored 68, most assists 121 and most points 189. Taupert also holds the record for most powerplay goals with 21 and has appeared in 317 career games over three seasons, leading the team in scoring all three years.
“Taupert is truly the greatest of all- time in Dragons colors,” states Coach Kevin Hasselberg. “Jordan has maintained consistency as a scoring threat in the Alberta Junior Hockey League year after year. He has developed his game on and off the ice and graduates not only as a statistical leader, but also as an inspirational leader to current and future Dragons. Taupert’s jersey is in a better place now than ever and we couldn’t be more excited for Jordan and his future in College hockey.”
The Drumheller Dragons would like to thank AJHL graduate and current Head Coach of the Griffins Michael Ringrose for all his recruiting efforts. We also wish to extend a congratulations out to Jordan and the entire Taupert family on this commitment. Taupert joins 24 AJHL alumni, including former captain of the Dragons Andrew Kartusch and former player Jacob Schofield, with the Griffins as they embark to defend the title again next season.
