Team AJHL semifinal bound at JCWC in Russia

CJHL reps to meet Kärpät of Finland in semifinal action Friday

SOCCHI, Russia ? Team AJHL is off to the semifinals at the Sirius Junior Club World Cup in Socchi, Russia.

Representing the Canadian Junior Hockey League at the eight-nation international event, the AJHL selects will face the top seed in Group B, Kärpät from Oulu, Finland at 6 a.m. MDT.

The AJHLers posted a 2-1 record in a trio of round robin games.

They opened with a narrow 3-2 setback vs. Yaroslavl Loko of Russia before rebounding with a 5-4 victory over MODO from Sweden before punching their ticket to the semifinals with a convincing 7-0 triumph over Davos U-20 of Switzerland.

As for their upcoming opponent, Kärpät, they went 3-0 in round robin play, outscoring their opponents 19-5 in the process.

The other semifinal features 3-0 Yaroslavl Loko taking on 2-1 Salzburg Red Bull from Austria. Later in the day on Friday.

Pacing Team AJHL offensively through three outings is Jordan Biro (Spruce Grove Saints) as he has scored twice and helped set-up four others. His six points ties him for third overall in JCWC scoring.

Next on the AJHL squad is Carter Savoie (Sherwood Park Crusaders) as he has one goal and four helpers to his credit.

Team captain Ryan Conway (Fort McMurray Oil Barons) leads all tournament defencemen in points with four, including one tally, as he also cracks the Top 10 in offensive numbers among all skaters.
