Drayton Valley Alta. – Drayton Valley Thunder are pleased to announce that they have hired Derek Wiest as the organizations new Assistant Coach. Derek comes from a hockey family, his grandfather owned the Former AJHL Red Deer Rustlers and he has 2 uncles who currently work for the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL. Derek has coached Minor hockey at the Bantam and Midget level and for the past three seasons has been the Head Coach of the very successful Junior B Coaldale Copperheads, in Coaldale Alberta.

Derek, a players coach, brings an incredible work ethic as well as a proven track record of developing and supporting his players to move on to the next level.” said Head Coach Kyle Adams “we are delighted he has joined our team and will be an important contributor to restoring the winning tradition of the Drayton Valley Thunder.“
