When it comes to educating children, thinking outside the box is often all it takes and that’s what Ronald’s Readers continues to prove every year, bringing together Evergreen Elementary, Aim for Success, the Drayton Valley Thunder, and a local McDonald’s restaurant.
Having been offered in Drayton Valley for several years, Ronald’s Readers helps heighten students interest and ability to read by pairing them with players from the Drayton Valley Thunder.
“It combines mentoring and reading, so the kids get to develop positive relationships, especially with sports [figures],” explained Shelley Chaney, Aim for Success Mentor. “[Students] think it’s really exciting and starting Monday morning every week it’s ‘Is it Ronald’s Readers day Mrs. Chaney?’”
