If things were moving any faster, Matt Tomkins would be in a constant state of dizziness.
Even though the six-foot-one, 175-pounder is very grounded, the about-to-turn, 18-year-old from Sherwood Park has to stop and pinch himself on occasion, such as:
*Having three NCAA universities come knocking on your door with full scholarship rides and taking up Ohio State on its offer;
* Being one of just 11 players invited by Hockey Canada to this weekend’s goaltending camp as an under-20 team prospect;
* Being listed as No. 10 among North American goaltenders in the final Central Scouting Bureau rankings in your draft year.
And all that after playing just one season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and making 33 regular season starts with the Sherwood Park Crusaders. He posted a 3.41 goals-against average and .894 save percentage and finished No. 2 in the league’s goaltender-of-the-year voting.
