Tonight in the AJHL – Game Night Wrap Up (September)

The month of September finished off with five games on the AJHL ice.

Spruce Grove Saints (5-2-2) @ Camrose Kodiaks (7-1-0)
Scott Ferguson's two goal night leads Kodiaks to their fifth straight win 3-2 over the Saints.
The Kodiaks had the lone goal of the opening period. Scott Ferguson (unassisted @9:59) shot from a sharp angle beat Saints (Starting) goaltender Tanner McCorriston. Shots favoured the Saints 13-6 in the opening period.
The two teams would exchange goals in the second period. Paul Lovsin (assist to Parker Mackay @3:58) would follow up on his rebound and beat Kodiaks (starting) goaltender Devin McDonald to tie the game at 1-1. The Kodiaks would reclaim the lead while shorthanded. Scott Ferguson (assist to Nelson Gadoury @9:05) would score his second of the night on a breakaway to make it 2-1 after two periods. Shots favoured the Saints 11-7 in the period and 24-13 in the hockey game.
In the third period, the two teams would once again exchange goals. Trevor Costello (assists to Dallas Bergstrom and Spencer Kryczka @1:02) would beat McCorriston five-hole on the power play to extend the Kodiaks lead to 3-1. That goal would also spell the end of the night for McCorriston, who would give up three goals on 14 shots. The Saints would get within one as Colton Leiter (assists to Cole Nicholson and Paul Lovsin @11:57) would find a loose puck at the top of the crease and jam it into the net. Shots would end up favouring the Saints 14-4 in the period and 38-17 in the hockey game.
The Saints will host Fort McMurray on October 3rd. Camrose will finish their two game home stand on October 3rd against Brooks.

Drumheller Dragons (6-1-1) @ Canmore Eagles (3-4-0)
Griffin Mumby's power play goal in overtime lifts Eagles to 2-1 win over Dragons.
The Dragons would score the lone goal in the opening period. On the power play Ryan Suchorab (assists to Mitchell Cook and Ethan James @5:41) would wrist a shot from the right point that beat Eagles (starting) goaltender Ryan Ferguson. Shots favoured Dragons 12-8 in the opening period.
The Eagles would tie the game with the only goal of the second period. On the power play Ryley Risling (assists to Joe Serpico and Jordan Revie @19:39) would slip the puck five-hole on Dragons (starting) goaltender Curtis Skip. Shots favoured the Eagles 10-6 in the period and were even at 18-18 after two.
Neither team would score in the third period. Drumheller would outshoot Canmore 14-7 in the period and 32-25 after regulation.
Griffin Mumby (assists to Connor Wilson and Jordan Revie @3:16) on the power play would snap a shot high blocker side on Skip to give the Eagles a 2-1 overtime victory. Shots favoured the Eagles in overtime 2-0. Drumheller would out shoot Canmore 32-27 in the hockey game.
Drumheller will continue their road trip on October 3rd in Olds. Canmore will finish off their two game home stand on October 3rd against the Crusaders.

Drayton Valley Thunder (3-3-1) @ Grande Prairie Storm (3-5-0)
Jamie Waddington's two points help Thunder to their third straight win 4-1 over the Storm.
The Thunder would score the lone goal of the opening period. Michael Cardinal (assist to Nathan Deyell @11:45) would pounce on the rebound and beat Storm (starting) goaltender Adam Beukeboom to make it 1-0 Thunder after one. Shots favoured the Storm 9-8 in the period.
Neither team was able to score in the second period. Shots favoured the Thunder 5-4 in the period and were even 13-13 after two.
The Thunder would blow the game wide open in the third period. Jason Miller (unassisted @3:55) would give the Thunder a 2-0 lead when slapped the loose puck into the net. Jamie Waddington (assist to Joseph Tambasco @5:10) would add to the Drayton Valley lead when he beat Beukeboom high glove side. The Thunder would keep coming as Landon Robin (assists to Jamie Waddington and Robert Cain @18:42) got behind the Storm defence and went top shelf to make it 4-0. Grande Prairie would spoil the shutout late in the period. Braeden Jones (assist to Brett Doiron @19:52) would blast a shot from the point that beat Thunder (starting) goaltender Marc-Olivier Daigle to make the final 4-1 Drayton Valley. Shots favoured the Storm 13-7 in the period and 26-20 in the hockey game.
Drayton Valley will open up a two game home stand on October 3rd against Bonnyville. Grande Prairie will finish off their two game home stand on October 3rd against Lloydminster.

Sherwood Park Crusaders (5-3-1) @ Bonnyville Pontiacs (5-2-1)
Cole Gammer scores twice including the game winning goal in overtime as Crusaders win their second straight 4-3 over the Pontiacs.
The Crusaders would open the scoring with a powerplay goal in the first. Dane Phaneuf (assists to Arthur Gordon and Chase Torontow @18:39) would blow a one-timer past Pontiacs (starting) goaltender Joey Desrosiers to make it 1-0. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 9-5 in the opening period.
Bonnyville would tie the game at 1-1 early in the second period. Adam Wilson (assists to Ryan Black and Brady Bakke @3:19) would bang a rebound behind Crusaders (starting) goaltender Zac Klassen. The Crusaders would retake the lead as Ben Sowa (unassisted @10:01) fired the puck from inside his end off the side boards and a miscue by Desrosiers allowed the puck to slide into the net. Late in the period the Pontiacs would tie the game at 2-2. Brady Bakke (assists to Ryan Piche and Ryan Black @18:16) would shovel the loose puck into the net. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 19-9 in the period and 28-14 after two periods.
The Crusaders and Pontiacs would exchange goals in the third period. Just 25 seconds into the period Cole Gammer (assists to Ryan Kruper and Dane Phaneuf @0:25) took a drop pass and wired blocker side on Desrosier to make it 3-2. The Pontiacs would once again tie the game as Luke Mahura (assists to Kyler Hehn and Alden Dupuis @6:21) on the power play would beat Klassen low blocker side. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 14-6 in the period and 42-20 after regulation.
Overtime wouldn't last long as Cole Gammer (assist to Arthur Gordon @0:59) would wheel into Pontiac territory and wrist a shot that beat Desrosier blocker side to give the Crusaders the extra time win. Shots were even 1-1 in overtime. The Pontiacs held the shot edge 43-21 in the hockey game.
Sherwood Park will continue their four game road trip on October 3rd in Canmore. Bonnyville will open up a two game road trip in Drayton Valley on October 3rd.

Okotoks Oilers (3-4-2) @ Calgary Mustangs (2-6-0)
Nick Renyard's 27 save shutout helps Oilers to third straight win 3-0 over the Calgary Mustangs.
The Oilers would score the lone goal of the opening period. Frankie Spellman (assists to Carson Beers and Matt McNair @6:47) standing all alone in front of the net flipped the puck over Mustangs (starting) goaltender Ravi Dattani. Shots favoured the Oilers 15-8 in the opening period.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period. Shots favoured the Oilers 15-12 and 30-20 in the hockey game.
The Oilers would extend their lead in the third period with a pair of late goals. Trey Degraaf (assists to Jake Dube and Mitch Collett @15:15) would drag the puck from post to post and beat Dattani to make it 2-0. Rhett Gardner (assist to Frankie Spellman @18:53) would bang in a rebound after Spellman was stopped to make the final 3-0. Shots favoured the Oilers 18-7 in the period and 48-27 in the hockey game.
Okotoks will open up a two game home stand on October 4th against Sherwood Park. The Mustangs will travel to Okotoks on October 7th for their next game.

Just one game on Sunday in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Whitecourt Wolverines (2-6-0) @ Sherwood Park Crusaders (4-3-1)
Daniel Wray's four points helps the Crusaders edge Wolverines 5-4.
It wouldn't take long for the Crusaders to open the scoring. Daniel Wray (assist to Arthur Gordon @0:35) took a cross ice pass and beat Wolverines (starting) goaltender Simon Lemieux. The Crusaders would add to their lead when Reid Bosse (assists to Arthur Gordon and Daniel Wray @6:22) would find a loose puck in the crease and poke the puck into the net. Just 38 seconds later Daniel Wray (assist to Reid Bosse @7:00) would make it 3-0 by beating Lemieux over the blocker from the right faceoff circle. Whitecourt would get on the board with a powerplay goal late in the period. Trace Elson (assists to Brandon Switzer and Jordan Davies @13:36) would finish off a three on two breakaway and beat Crusaders (starting) goaltender Tommy Nixon five-hole. Arthur Gordon (assist to Daniel Wray @16:16) would give the Crusaders their three goal lead back when he out waited Wolverines (backup) goaltender Tallon Kramer. Brandon Switzer (assists to John Mullally and Gordie Ballhorn @18:53) would finish off a busy first period when he followed up on the rebound and beat Nixon five-hole to make it 4-2 Crusaders after one. Shots favoured the Crusaders 11-9 in the opening period.
The Crusaders would get the lone goal of the period. Ryan Kruper (assists to Cameron Brezinski and Chase Torontow @18:03) would slap a shot short side on Kramer. Shots would favour the Crusaders 16-7 in the period and 27-16 in the hockey game.
The Wolverines would get their third goal of the game early in the third. Joel Kocur (assists to Jordan Davies and Brandon Switzer @1:32) would tip in the point shot from Davies to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Wolverines would continue to get closer as Gordie Ballhorn (assist to Jared Freadrich @8:52) would blast a shot over Nixon's blocker on the powerplay. That is as close as the Wolverines would get as they fall 5-4 to the Crusaders. Shots favoured the Wolverines 10-4 in the period. The Crusaders held the shot edge in the hockey game 31-26.
Whitecourt will host Fort McMurray on October 4th. Sherwood Park will open up a four game road trip on September 30th in Bonnyville.


September 27th, 2014

The final six games of Showcase Weekend took place on Saturday.

Calgary Canucks (3-4-0) @ Fort McMurray Oil Barons (6-3-0)
Oil Barons edge Canucks 3-2 on Jackson McKinstry's goal with 34 seconds left in regulation.
Both teams would get goals in the opening period. Adam Durkee (assists to Mitchell Vanderlaan and Jetlan Houcher @15:00) would beat Canucks (starting) goaltender Malcolm Walilko to give the Oil Barons a 1-0 lead. Late in the opening frame Matteo Milroy (assists to Zach Dietrich and Cade Owad @19:35) would beat Oil Barons (starting) goaltender Jayden Sittler to tie the game at 1-1. Shots would favour the Oil Barons 11-8.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period. Shots favoured the Oil Barons 12-10 in the period and 23-18 in the game.
The Canucks would get their first lead of the day as Trent Geiger (assists to Hayden Dawes and Matthew Dykstra @1:15) would find the back of the net. The Oil Barons would push and finally tie the game late in the period as Adam Durkee ( assists to Mitchell Vanderlaan and Jetlan Houcher @17:30) would score his second of the day. With just 34 seconds left in regulation Jackson McKinstry (assists to Shawn Weber and Taylor Lileikis @19:26) would play the hero and win the game for the Oil Barons. Shots favoured the Oil Barons 13-5 in the period and 38-23 in the hockey game.
The Canucks will host Brooks on October 1st. Fort McMurray will be in Spruce Grove on October 3rd.

Canmore Eagles (3-3-0) @ Bonnyville Pontiacs (4-2-1)
Ryan Black's four point night leads Pontiacs to 4-1 win over the Eagles.
The Pontiacs would open the scoring on the power play as Mitch Fritz (assists to Dillan McCombie and Ryan Black @4:16) would beat Eagles (starting) goaltender Levi Nelson. The Pontiacs would add to their lead later in the frame as Kyler Hehn (assist to Ryan Black @11:14) would find the back of the net on the power play. Shots would favour the Eagles 12-5 in the opening period.
Bonnyville would go up 3-0 in the second period as Ryan Black (assists to Dillan McCombie and Steenn Pasichnuk @6:46) would strike on the power play. Shots were 12-8 Pontiacs in the period. The Eagles held the shot edge 20-17 after two periods.
The Eagles would get on the board as Kurt Hildebrand (assists to Ryley Risling and Jordan Revie @10:22) would beat Pontiacs (starting) goaltender Reid Kilburn on the power play. The Pontiacs would answer back as Steenn Pasichnuk (assist to Ryan Black @13:14) would finish off the scoring to make it 4-1 Pontiacs. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 17-16 in the period. Shots would favour the Eagles in the hockey game 36-34 in the hockey game.
Canmore will host Drumheller on September 30th. Bonnyville will return to action on September 30th when they host the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

Okotoks Oilers (2-4-2) @ Grande Prairie Storm (3-4-0)
For the second straight game, Rhett Gardner scores twice to lead Oilers to 4-1 win over the Storm.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the opening period. Shots favoured the Storm 10-6 in the first.
The Oilers would get on the board first as Rhett Gardner (assist to Nolan Thompson @11:03) would beat Storm (starting) goaltender Adam Beukeboom. Grande Prairie would tie the game as Dylan Thudium (assists to Blake Bosch and Hayden Berra @13:15) would beat Oilers (starting) goaltender Nic Renyard. Okotoks would retake the lead just over a minute later as Frankie Spellman (assists to Matt McNair and Tanner Ockey @14:42) would score a power play goal to make it 2-1 after two periods. Shots favoured the Storm 12-11 in the period and 22-17 in the hockey game.
Okotoks would extend their lead as Rhett Gardner (unassisted @14:51) would score his second of the game. The Oilers would then finish off the scoring when Trey Degraaf (assists to Mitch Collett and Jake Dube @17:21) would get a power play goal. Shots favoured the Storm 10-7 in the period and 32-24 in the hockey game.
The Oilers will travel to Calgary to take on the Mustangs on September 30th. Grande Prairie returns to action on September 30th when they host Drayton Valley.

Brooks Bandits (4-2-0) @ Lloydminster Bobcats (3-4-1)
Bryce Woodward scores a hat trick and adds an assist as the Bobcats beat the Bandits 7-5.
The Bobcats would open the scoring as Bryce Woodward (unassisted @10:14) would beat Bandits (starting) goaltender Josh Davies. The Bandits would tie the game just 37 seconds later as Derek Lodermeier (assist to Jared Cockrell @10:51) would beat Bobcats (starting) goaltender Ryan Ternes. Alex Roberts (assist to Oliver Lester @14:09) would give the Bandits their first lead of the night. The Bobcats would tie the game at 2-2 when Bryce Woodward (assists to Mitchell Brennan and Jakob LaPointe @19:24) would score his second of the day. Shots were even 9-9 in the opening period.
Troy Van Tetering (assists to Bryce Woodward and Jimmy Tich @6:32) would give the Bobcats the lead 3-2 early in the second. Less than a minute later Jared Cockrell (assists to Blake Luscombe and Hayden Ursulak @7:24) would tie the game at 3-3. Chris Seto (unassisted @19:08) would give the Bobcats a 4-3 lead after two periods. Shots favoured the Bobcats 12-6 in the period and 21-15 after 40.
The Bandits would tie the game as Mark Logan (assists to Madison Dunn and Nathan Bizeau @10:27) would score on the power play. Less than a minute later Shane Switzer (assist to Madison Dunn @11:12) would give the Bandits a 5-4 lead. Just over a minute later though Linden Springer (assists to Jakob LaPointe and Chris Seto) would tie the game at 5-5. With less than four minutes left Bryce Woodward (assists to Troy Van Tetering and Austin Yaremchuk @12:46) would complete the hat trick on the power play. Lloydminster would then get some insurance as Tyler Kunz (assist to Chris Seto @18:47) would score another power play goal to make it 7-5. Shots favoured the Bobcats 11-10 in the period and 32-25 in the hockey game.
Brooks will return to action on October 1st in Calgary against the Canucks. Lloydminster returns to action on October 3rd in Grande Prairie.

The Saints would press in the third period but were unable to find the tying goal as the Kodiaks skated away with a 1-0 win. Shots favoured the Saints 11-5 in the period and 34-23 in the hockey game.
Spruce Grove and Camrose will meet up again on September 30th in Camrose.

Trevor Poirier's second period goal helps Thunder to 3-2 win over the Wolverines.
Drayton Valley would open the scoring when Ty Bettac (assists to Brayden Harris and Braden Jakubowski @6:54) would beat Wolverines (starting) goaltender Simon Lemieux. The Wolverines would tie the game when Brandon Switzer (assist to Jordan Davies @8:39) would beat Thunder (starting) goaltender Marc-Olivier Daigle. Shots favoured the Wolverines 12-7 in the opening period.
Joseph Tambasco (assists to Braden Jakubowski and Brayden Harris @4:25) would give the Thunder a 2-1 lead in the second period. Whitecourt would answer back as Trace Elson (assists to Joel Kocur and James Vermeulen @6:30) would beat Daigle. That would be the end of the Daigle who would give up two goals on 21 shots. Garrett Mason would come in and replace Daigle. Trevor Poirier (assist to Jason Miller @14:53) would give the Thunder back the lead. Shots would favour the Wolverines 15-6 in the period and 27-13 in the hockey game.
Neither team would score in the third period. The shots would be even in the period at 8-8. Whitecourt would outshoot the Thunder 35-21 in the hockey game.
Whitecourt will return to action on September 28th in Sherwood Park. Drayton Valley will travel to Grande Prairie on September 30th.

Twelve teams hit the ice on Friday for the 2014 Surge Energy Showcase weekend.

Olds Grizzlys (4-4-1) @ Calgary Mustangs (2-5-0)
Kyle Moore's two goals help Grizzlys snap three game losing streak with a 5-0 win over the Mustangs.
The Grizzlys would get the lone goal of the first period on the power play. Austin Kernahan (assists to Kodi Schwarz and BJ Duffin @15:37) would beat Mustangs (starting) goaltender Ravi Dattani. Shots favoured the Grizzlys 18-3 in the opening period.
Olds would add to their lead when Josh Zablocki (assists to Kodi Schwarz and Christopher Gerrie @9:06) would find the back of the net. Shots favoured the Grizzlys 13-6 in the period and 31-9 in the hockey game.
The Grizzlys would break the game wide open in the third period with three goals. Kyle Moore (assists to Kyle Star and Landon Kletke @5:44) would make it 3-0 on the power play. Later in the period Kyle Moore (assists to BJ Duffin and Josh Zablocki @12:51) would strike again on another power play. The Grizzlys would finish off the scoring when Sean Richards (assist to Christopher Gerrie @15:03) would beat Dattani to make it 5-0. Shots favoured the Mustangs 10-8 in the period. The Grizzlys would outshoot the Mustangs 39-19 in the hockey game.
Grizzlys goaltender Billy Gorn would turn away all 19 shots that he faced for his first AJHL shutout.
The Grizzlys will host the Drumheller Dragons on October 3rd. The Mustangs will host the Okotoks Oilers on September 30th.

Bonnyville Pontiacs (3-2-1) @Drumheller Dragons (6-1-0)
Mitch Fritz's power play goal late in overtime lifts Pontiacs to 4-3 win over Dragons.
Bonnyville would strike first early in the opening period when Bobby McMann (assist to Mitch Fritz @1:44) would beat Dragons (starting) goaltender Jonny Hogue. Drumheller would tie the game at 1-1 midway through the period when Rory Davidson (assist to Chad Harrison @9:15) would beat Pontiacs (starting) goaltender Joey Desrosiers. Shots favoured the Dragons 15-10 in the period.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 13-11 in the period. The Dragons held the shot edge 26-23 after two.
The Pontiacs would take a 2-1 lead on the power play early in the third frame. Bobby McMann (assists to Dillan McCombie and Ryan Black @1:38) would beat Hogue. The Dragons would tie the game at 2-2 as Tristan Thompson (assists to Hunter Mills and Wyatt Noskey @7:56) would score even strength. Once again Bonnyville would take the lead on the power play. Steenn Pasichnuk (assists to Mitch Fritz and Luke Mahura @15:35) would beat Hogue to make it 3-2. With just 1:23 left in the period, the Dragons would tie the game at 3-3. Cody Fiala (assist to Wyatt Noskey @18:37) would beat Desrosiers to send the game to overtime. Shots favoured the Pontiacs in the period 14-3 in the period and 37-29 after regulation.
The Pontiacs would get the game winning goal on the power play Mitch Fritz (assists to Dillan McCombie and Ryan Black @4:27) would beat Hogue to make the final 4-3. Shots favored the Pontiacs 4-2 in overtime and 41-31 in the hockey game.
The Pontiacs will finish up their showcase weekend on September 27th against the Canmore Eagles. Drumheller will travel to Canmore to take on the Eagles on September 30th.

Lloydminster Bobcats (2-4-1) @ Canmore Eagles (3-2-0)
Devon Green turns away 20 shots as Bobcats snap three game losing streak with 2-0 shutout of the Eagles.
The Bobcats would get the lone goal of the opening period as Troy Van Tetering (assists to Brett Everson and Bryce Woodward) would beat Eagles (starting) goaltender Ryan Ferguson. The Bobcats would outshoot the Eagles 9-8 in the period.
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the second period. Shots favoured the Bobcats 11-5 in the period and 20-13 in the game.
The Bobcats would get the lone goal in the third period as Taylor Mulder (unassisted) gave the Bobcats some insurance to ensure a 2-0 win.
The Bobcats will finish up their showcase weekend on September 27th against the Brooks Bandits. The Eagles will wrap up their showcase weekend against the Bonnyville Pontiacs on September 27th.

Grande Prairie Storm (3-3-0) @ Calgary Canucks (2-4-0)
Bryson Gore's three points help Canucks edge Storm 4-3.
The Canucks would get the lone goal of the opening period when Clay Spencer (assist to Jordan Wiest @7:37) would beat Storm (starting) goaltender Adam Beukeboom. Shots would favour the Canucks 10-9 in the opening period.
The Storm would strike very early in the second period to tie the game and then take a 2-1 lead. Ben Assad (assists to Brett Doiron and Ian McLellan @0:59) would get things started when he beat Canucks (starting) goaltender Colin Cooper on the power play. Just 9 seconds later Hayden Berra (unassisted @1:08) would give the Storm their first lead of the night. The Canucks would the tie the game on the power play when Bryson Gore (assist to Nolan Carothers @6:30) would beat Beukeboom. Grande Prairie retook the lead when Dylan Thudium (unassisted @11:56) would beat Cooper. The Canucks would then get their second power play goal of the game. Brandon Benson (assists to Colton Sheen and Bryson Gore @16:41) found the back of the net to tie the game at 3-3 after two periods. Shots were even at 13-13 in the period but favoured the Canucks 23-22 after two.
There was just one goal in the third period, and it came on the power play. Zach Dietrich (assists to Bryson Gore and Colton Sheen @8:31) would give the Canucks a 4-3 lead that they would not give up. Shots favoured the Storm 8-7 in the period and were even 30-30 in the hockey game.
The Storm will wrap up their showcase weekend on September 27th against the Okotoks Oilers. The Canucks will finish up their showcase weekend on September 27th against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

Fort McMurray Oil Barons (6-2-0) @ Okotoks Oilers (1-4-2)
Rhett Gardner's two goals help Oilers snap six game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Oil Barons.
The Oilers would open the scoring midway through the opening period as Drew Weich (assist to Mitch Collett @12:41) would beat Oil Barons (starting) goaltender Zach Fortin. Just 13 seconds later the Oilers would add to their lead as Rhett Gardner (assists to Troy Degraaf and Mitch Collett @12:54) would beat Fortin. Fort McMurray would get on the board later in the frame as Adam Durkee (assist to Mitchell Vanderlaan @14:05) would beat Oilers (starting) goaltender Nic Renyard to make it 2-1. Shots favoured the Oilers 11-7 in the opening period.
Neither team would be able to score in the second. Shots favoured the Oilers 7-6 in the period and 18-13 in the hockey game.

Fort McMurray would answer on the power play as Mark Drohan (assist to Mitchell Vanderlaan @8:41) would beat Renyard to make it 4-3. Shots would favour the Oil Barons 13-11 in the period. The Oilers would hold the shot edge 29-26 in the hockey game.

Sherwood Park Crusaders (4-2-1) @ Brooks Bandits (3-2-0)
Jared Cockrell's two goals help Bandits shutout Crusaders 4-0.
The Bandits had the lone goal of the opening period when Jared Cockrell (assists to Mark Logan and Nathan Bizeau @7:30) would beat Crusaders (starting) goaltender Zac Klassen. Shots would favour the Bandits 10-5 in the opening period.
Oliver Lester (assists to Austin Plevy and Anthony Paskaruk @5:02) scored the lone goal of the second period for the Bandits to extend their lead to 2-0. Shots would favour the Crusaders 10-8 in the period. The Bandits held an 18-15 shot edge after two periods.
Jared Cockrell (assists to Charlie Marchand and Nathan Bizeau @10:19) would score his second of the game to extend the Bandits lead to 3-0. Just 24 second later the Bandits would cap off the scoring when Anthony Paskaruk (assist to Austin Plevy @10:43) would score shorthanded. Shots favoured the Bandits 14-6 in the period and 32-21 in the hockey game.
Josh Davies would stop all 21 shots for his second shutout of the season.
The Crusaders will host the Whitecourt Wolverines on September 28th. Brooks will finish up their showcase weekend on September 27th against the Lloydminster Bobcats.

Eight teams were excited to open up Showcase Weekend today, but a city wide power outage just before the opening game between Drayton Valley and Olds caused a two hour delay.

Drayton Valley Thunder (1-3-1) @ Olds Grizzlys (3-2-0)
Trevor Poirier and Joseph Tambasco each tally a goal and two assists as Thunder take out the Grizzlys 6-2.
Drayton Valley wouldn't wait long to opening the scoring as Jason Miller (assist to Trevor Poirier @1:12) would beat Grizzlys (starting) goaltender Jordan Piccolino. On the power play, the Thunder would go up 2-0 thanks to Luke Orysiuk (unassisted @10:18). Shots favoured the Grizzlys 16-12 in the opening period.
Drayton Valley would add to their lead in the second on another power play as Trevor Poirier (assist to Joseph Tambasco @18:29) would beat Piccolino to make it 3-0. Shots were even at 9-9 in the period, but the Grizzlys held a 25-21 shot edge after two periods.
A busy third period got going when the Grizzlys would strike shorthanded as Christopher Gerrie (unassisted @4:54) beat Thunder (starting) goaltender Garrett Mason. Drayton Valley would get that goal back at the end of their power play as Jordan Taupert (assists to Trevor Poirier and Joseph Tambasco @6:21) made it 4-1. The Grizzlys would get their second goal of the night after pulling their goaltender; Kodi Schwarz (assists to Alex Brewer and Austin Kernahan @18:38) would get the goal. Drayton Valley would cap off the scoring with two goals in 33 seconds to wrap up the 6-2 win. First it was Brett Smythe (assist to Landon Robin @19:21) scoring into an empty net, then Joseph Tambasco (assists to Jason Miller and Noah Kieser @19:54). Shots would favor the Thunder 9-6 in the period. Olds would get the shot edge in the game 31-30.

Calgary Mustangs (2-4-0) @ Sherwood Park Crusaders (3-2-1)
Tyler Maltby's two goals help Crusaders score four unanswered goals in route to 4-1 win over Mustangs.
The Mustangs would open the scoring on the power play as Mason Mitchell (assist to Josh Betinol @8:54) would beat Crusaders (starting) goaltender Tommy Nixon to make it 1-0. Sherwood Park would tie the game before the end of the period as Tyler Maltby (unassisted @17:35) would beat Mustangs (starting) goaltender Ravi Dattani. Shots favoured the Crusaders 13-10 in the period.
The Crusaders would take their first lead of the night on the power play in the second period Dane Phaneuf (assists to Chase Torontow and Arthur Gordon @8:29) would beat Dattani to make it 2-1. Tyler Maltby (assist to Brett Magee @11:46) would score his second of the night to make it 3-1 after two periods of play. Shots favoured the Crusaders 11-3 in the period and 24-13 after two.
In the third there would be just one goal, and it would come off the stick of Ryan Kruper (assists to Arthur Gordon and Chase Torontow @6:30) on the power play. Shots favoured the Crusaders 12-6 in the period and 36-19 in the hockey game.
The Mustangs will take on the Olds Grizzlys on September 26th to finish up their showcase weekend. Sherwood Park will wrap up their showcase weekend on September 26th against Brooks.

Drumheller Dragons (5-1-0) @ Spruce Grove Saints (5-1-1)
Dakota Zaharichuk completes Dragons come back as they defeat the Saints 3-2 in overtime.
Neither team would be able to score in the opening period. Shots favoured the Saints 9-4 in the opening period.
The Saints would open the scoring on the power play in the second period. Paul Lovsin (assists to Jarid Hauptman and Nicolas Correale @10:17) would beat Dragons (starting) goaltender Curtis Skip to make it 1-0. The Saints would add to their lead two minutes when Josh Harris (assists Connor James and Parker Mackay @12:40) would beat Skip. Shots on goal would favour the Dragons 17-5 in the period and 22-13 after two periods.
The Dragons would get on the board late in the third period. Jacob Schofield (assist to Hunter Mills @15:17) would score shorthanded, beating Saints (starting) goaltender Tanner McCorriston. Just 48 seconds later the Dragons would tie the game at 2-2 when Ethan James (unassisted @16:08) would beat McCorriston to send the game to overtime. Shots were 7-6 in favour of the Dragons in the third period and 28-20 after three.
Overtime would nearly go the distance before Dakota Zaharichuk (assist to Mitchell Cook @4:01) would beat McCorriston to complete the Dragons comeback. Shots were 1-0 Dragons in overtime and 28-21 in the hockey game.
Drumheller will wrap up their showcase weekend on September 26th against Bonnyville. Spruce Grove will finish up their showcase weekend on September 27th against Camrose.

Camrose Kodiaks (5-1-0) @ Whitecourt Wolverines (2-4-0)
Ryker Leer's two goals help lead Kodiaks to 5-2 win over Wolverines.
The Kodiaks would open the scoring midway through the first period on the power play when Spencer Kryczka (assists Jody Sick and Brett Njaa @9:10) would beat Wolverines (starting) goaltender Tallon Kramer. The Wolverines would tie the game at 1-1 late in the period, Joel Kocur (assist to Brandon Switzer @18:00) would beat Kodiaks (starting) goaltender Patrick Gora. Shots would favour the Kodiaks 15-9 in the opening frame.
It was all Kodiaks in the second period. First Braeden Salverda (assists to Danton Davis and Nelson Gadoury @1:53) would beat Kramer to give the Kodiaks their second lead of the night. Ryker Leer (assist to Scott Ferguson @11:41) would score his first of the night while the Kodiaks were shorthanded. Ryker Leer (penalty shot @14:28) would get his second of the night on a penalty shot after he was tripped up on a breakaway to make it 4-1 Kodiaks after two periods. Shots favoured the Kodiaks 20-4 in the period and 35-13 after two.
Simon Lemieux would start the third period in goal for the Wolverines. The Kodiaks would beat (backup) goaltender Simon Lemieux, when Nelson Gadoury (assists to Stefan Danielson and Braeden Salverda @0:27) would score on the first shift of the period. The Wolverines would get a goal back midway through the period when Brandon Switzer (assist to Trace Elson @8:08) would beat Gora to make the final 5-2 Kodiaks. Shots favoured the Wolverines 10-8 in the period. The Kodiaks would outshoot the Wolverines 43-23 in the hockey game.
Camrose will finish up their showcase weekend on September 27th against Spruce Grove. Whitecourt will finish up showcase weekend on September 27th against Drayton Valley.

Fort McMurray Oil Barons (5-2-0) @ Bonnyville Pontiacs (3-1-1)

Zach Fortin turns aside 42 shots as Oil Barons edge Pontiacs 2-1.

The Pontiacs had the lone goal of the opening period. Brady Bakke (assists to Michael Iovanna and Ryan Black @12:58) was sprung free on a breakaway and beat Oil Barons (goaltender) Zach Fortin five-hole to make it 1-0. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 16-9 in the opening period.

The Oil Barons would tie the game at 1-1 in the second period when Mitchell Vanderlaan (penalty shot @19:40) was awarded a penalty shot after being tripped up on a breakaway. Vanderlaan would go right down the left side and bury a shot short side on Pontiacs (starting) goaltender Reid Kilburn. Shots would favour the Pontiacs 17-9 in the period and 33-18 after two periods.

The Oil Barons would take their first lead of the night while shorthanded midway through the third period. Jetlan Houcher (unassisted @8:55) would pick a pass off at the blue line, and speed away on a breakaway and beat Kilburn blocker side to make it 2-1. Shots would favour the Pontiacs 10-4 in the period and 43-22 in the hockey game.

Camrose Kodiaks (4-1-0) @ Calgary Canucks (2-2-0)
Devin McDonald turns away all 32 shots as Kodiaks shutout the Canucks 3-0.
The Kodiaks would get the lone goal of the first period when Ryker Leer (assists to Stefan Danielson and Tanner Younghans @17:11) would wire a shot that beat Canucks (starting) goaltender Colin Cooper. Shots favoured the Canucks 10-9 in the opening period.
Camrose would add to their lead with a powerplay goal in the second period. Brett Njaa (assists to Cam Gotaas and Ryker Leer @7:09) snapped a shot from the top of the slot that beat Cooper blocker side. The Canucks outshot the Kodiaks 14-9 in the period and led on the shot clock 24-18 after two periods.
The Kodiaks would cap off the scoring late in the third period when Tanner Younghans (assist to Adam Wheeldon @16:22) would snap a shot from the top of the slot that beat Cooper glove side. Shots would favour the Kodiaks 15-8 in the period and 33-32 in the hockey game.
The Kodiaks will take on Whitecourt (showcase weekend) on September 25th. The Canucks will take on Grande Prairie (showcase weekend) on September 26th.

Okotoks Oilers (1-3-2) @ Canmore Eagles (2-2-0)
Simon Philp's three point night helps Eagles top Oilers 5-2.
The Eagles would open the scoring midway through the period as Simon Philp (assists to Nikolas Kosman and Connor Wilson @10:05) would get a tap in goal beating Oilers (starting) goaltender Devon Fordyce. Kyle Craddock (assists to Ryley Risling and Brett Radford @11:12) extended the Eagles lead just over a minute later when he blasted a shot from just inside the blue line. Shots favoured the Oilers 13-11 in the period.
The Eagles would kill off a major penalty and shortly after that add to their lead on powerplay of their own. Griffin Mumby (assists to Simon Philp and Connor Wilson @10:32) blasted a shot off the post and in to make it 3-0. That would spell the end of the night for Fordyce. Okotoks would get on the board late in the period. Drew Weich (assist to Frankie Spellman @19:33) one-timed a shot from the right faceoff circle that would beat Eagles (starting) goaltender Ryan Ferguson. Shots favoured the Oilers 13-6 in the period and 26-17 in the hockey game.
Canmore would get their three goal lead back on the power play in the third. Simon Philp (assists to Connor Wilson and Joe Serpico @4:05) would score his second of the night from just outside the crease, beating Oilers (backup) goaltender Riley Morris. Okotoks would make a late push thanks to a shot from the left faceoff circle from Kelton Driedger (assists to Kevin Jenken and Jordan Evans @18:15) beating Ferguson short side. Canmore would finish off the scoring when Lane Olson (unassisted @19:36) would get tripped up on a breakaway (awarded goal with an empty net)pushing the puck wide of the net. Shots favoured the Oilers 19-11 in the period and 45-28 in the hockey game.
Okotoks will take on Fort McMurray (showcase weekend) on September 26th. Canmore will take on Lloydminster (showcase weekend) on September 26th.

Brooks Bandits (3-1-0) @ Olds Grizzlys (3-3-1)
A late power play goal by Kyle Moore lifts Grizzlys to 5-4 win over Bandits.
Brooks would open the scoring just 19 seconds into the game. Alex Roberts (assists to Shane Bear and Adam Baughman @0:19) got behind the Grizzlys defence and beat (starting) goaltender Jordan Piccolino just over his glove. Brooks would add to their lead when Austin Plevy (assists Kyler Nachtigall and Anthony Paskaruk @16:41) would tap a rebound past Piccolino to go up 2-0. Shots favoured the Bandits 8-7 in the opening period.
The Grizzlys score their first goal of the game on the power play. Christopher Gerrie (assists to Kyle Moore and Jack Goranson @8:53) wristed a shot over the glove hand of Bandits (starting) goaltender Michael Fredrick. Just 16 seconds after that Landon Kletke (assists Christopher Gerrie and Alex Brewer @9:09) would pick a rebound and shovel the puck into the net to tie the game at 2-2. Brooks would get the lead back when Kyler Nachtigall (assists to Austin Plevy and Anthony Paskaruk @15:47) followed up and hammered a shot into the back of the net. Olds would respond 1:28 after that as Landon Kletke (unassisted @17:15) would get his second of the game jamming in a rebound to tie the game at 3-3. Shots favoured the Grizzlys 11-9 in the period and 18-17 after two periods.
For the second time in the game, the Bandits would score in the first 20 seconds of the period. Alex Roberts (assists to Mark Logan and Madison Dunn @0:15) would go forehand to backhand and beat Piccolino to make it 4-3. The Grizzlys would tie the game on the power play less than two minutes later. Alex Brewer (assists to Landon Kletke and Josh Zablocki @2:02) wristed a shot from the right faceoff circle beating Fredrick over the glove to tie the game at 4-4. The Grizzlys would get their first lead of the night on the power play as Kyle Moore (assist to Austin Kernahan @12:16) would find the loose puck and jam it into the net. Shots would favour the Bandits 19-8 in the period and 36-26 in the hockey game.
Brooks will take on Sherwood Park (showcase weekend) on September 26th. Olds will take on Drayton Valley (showcase weekend) on September 25th.

While shorthanded, the Mustangs would add to their lead when Vincent Paquette (unassisted @9:03) stole the puck at the blue line and on a breakaway went over the blocker of Hogue. On that same powerplay, the Dragons would get their first goal of the game. Wyatt Noskey (assists to Ryan Suchorab and Tristan Thompson @10:24) tipped in a point shot from Suchorab beating Mustangs (starting) goaltender Matthew McDonald glove side. The Dragons would tie the game on their second power play of the night. Hunter Mills (assists to Connor Boyd and Clint Filbrandt @12:14) would hit the puck out of the air and into the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2. The Dragons would score another power play goal later in the period as Jacob Schofield (assists to Mitchell Cook and Clint Filbrandt @17:36) would bang a rebound five-hole on McDonald. Shots favored the Dragons 15-8 in the opening period.
Drumheller would add to their lead in the second period when Wyatt Noskey (assists to Ryan Jevne and Reid Nemeth @1:55) would score his second of the night from the slot. That would be the end of the night for McDonald, who gave up four goals on 16 shots. Late in the period the Dragons would add to their lead. Tristan Thompson (assist to Jacob Schofield @14:56) finished off a two on one breakaway beating Mustangs (backup) goaltender Ravi Dattani to make it 5-2 after two. Shots favoured the Dragons 21-10 in the period and 36-18 after two.
The Mustangs would strike on the power play early in the third period. Josh Betinol (assist to Phelan Shaw @0:09) would take advantage of a funny hop off the end boards and score into an empty net. The Mustangs would then get within one as Bryan Huck (unassisted @14:47) would drive to the front of the net and backhand a shot past Hogue to cut the deficit to 5-4. Shots were even 10-10 in the period. The Dragons would outshoot the Mustangs 46-28.

Canmore Eagles (1-2-0) @ Fort McMurray Oil Barons (5-1-0)
Connor Wilson's late third period goal lifts Eagles to 5-4 win over Oil Barons.
The Oil Barons would get on the board first just as their power play expired as Jackson McKinstry (assists to Michael Sauer and Adam Durkee @3:16) jammed in a loose puck past Eagles (starting) goaltender Levi Nelson. The Eagles would respond just 26 seconds later as Ryley Risling (assists to Logan Ferguson and Brett Radford @3:42) took a centering feed and slid the puck past Oil Barons (starting) goaltender Jesse Gordichuk. Shortly after the Eagles tied the game at 1-1 Jesse Gordichuk would go down with an injury, and that would bring Zach Fortin into the game. The Oil Barons would retake the lead on the power play as Jetlan Houcher (assists to Adam Durkee and Brett McNeil @16:16) made a toe drag at the left faceoff circle and wristed a shot glove side on Nelson. Shots favoured the Oil Barons 21-7 in the opening period.
The Oil Barons would add to their lead in the second period as Adam Wilcox (assists to Jackson McKinstry @12:38) would take a bad angle shot that would bounce off Nelson's pad and into the net. Canmore answer as Connor Wilson (assists to Simon Philp and Brayden Biccum @17:47) tipped a point shot over the blocker hand of Oil Barons (backup) goaltender Zach Fortin. In the final minute Simon Philp (assists to Griffin Mumby and Connor Wilson @19:19) wrist shot from the blue line went off the far post and in, that would tie the game at 3-3 for the Eagles. Shots favoured the Oil Barons 16-15 in the period and 37-22 after two.
The Oil Barons would retake the lead as Jordan Xavier (assist to Aaron Ryback @3:21) would backhand a shot over Nelson's blocker to make it 4-3. The Eagles would tie it up 41 seconds later as Lane Olsen (assists to Matt Forchuk and Kurt Hildebrand @4:02) took a shot that bounced off a stick and floated over Fortin and into the net to tie the game at 4-4. The Eagles would take the lead late in the period when Connor Wilson (assist to Simon Philp and Joe Serpico @18:51) beat Fortin over his blocker. Shots would favour the Eagles 12-7 in the period. Fort McMurray would get the shot edge 44-34 in the hockey game.
The Oil Barons will open up a five game road trip on September 24 in Bonnyville. Canmore will return home on September 23rd against Okotoks.

The Crusaders would get the lone goal of the opening period when Ryan Kruper (assists to Liam Gregor and Tanner Laderoute @18:22) would bury a quick rebound from the left faceoff circle beating Grizzlys (starting) goaltender Billy Gorn blocker side. Shots favoured the Crusaders 13-11 in the opening period.
The Crusaders wouldn't waste a lot of time extending their lead in the second period as Ryan Kruper (assists to Liam Gregor and Chase Torontow @1:00) would snap his second of the game from the top of the slot over Gorn's glove hand. While shorthanded the Crusaders would strike again as Brett Magee (assist to Daniel Wray @7:57) would shovel the rebound into the back of the net. The Grizzlys would get on the board midway through the period as Logan Kerner (assist to Harison Klein @10:06) would snap a shot from the left faceoff circle beating Crusaders (starting) goaltender Tommy Nixon under his blocker. The Crusaders would respond on the power play as Cole Gammer (assists to Ben Sowa and Lane Zablocki @11:41) beat Gorn short side from the bottom of the left faceoff circle to make it 4-1. Cole Gammer (assists to Ben Sowa and Brett Magee @17:42) went back to work later in the period scoring his second power play goal of the period when he wrist a shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle beating Gorn five-hole. Shots favoured the Grizzlys 15-9 in the period and 26-22 in the hockey game.
The Grizzlys would get within three in the third period when Jesse Freeborn (assist to Joshua Murphy @11:01) pinched off the point and put a shot five-hole on Nixon. The Crusaders would respond as Luke Kempf (assist to Brett Van Os @15:45) drove to the front of the net and redirected a cross ice pass into the net to make it 6-2. Shots would favour the Grizzlys 8-7 in the period and 34-29 in the hockey game.
The Olds Grizzlys will return home on September 23rd to take on the Brooks Bandits. The Crusaders will take on the Calgary Mustangs (showcase weekend) on September 25th.

Bonnyville Pontiacs (2-1-1) @ Lloydminster Bobcats (2-3-1)
Kyler Hehn's two goals leads Pontiacs to a 2-0 win over the Bobcats.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in a very defensive opening period. Shots were even at 5-5 after one.
The Pontiacs would get the game's first goal on the power play as Kyler Hehn (assists to Dillan McCombie and Luke Mahura @9:33) would beat Ryan Ternes on a rebound from the right faceoff circle. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 7-5 in the period and 12-10 after two.
Bonnyville would add to their lead in the third period as Kyler Hehn (assists Braiden Doucette and Dillian McCombie @13:08) would get his second of the night tipping in the point shot from Doucette. Shots favoured the Bobcats 5-4 in the period, however, would favour the Pontiacs 16-15 in the hockey game.
The Bonnyville Pontiacs will return home on September 24th to take on Fort McMurray. Lloydminster will open up a four game road trip (including showcase weekend) against Canmore on September 26th.

The Dragons would strike first as Clint Filbrandt (assists to Craig Ofner and Dakota Zaharichuk @6:46) put the puck on goal, and it found a way to beat Bandits (starting) goaltender Josh Davies over his blocker.  The Bandits would respond as Austin Plevy (assists to Anthony Paskaruk and Neil Robinson @12:15) took a centering pass and rolled the puck under Dragons (starting) goaltender Curtis Skip glove to tie the game at 1-1. Late in the period the Bandits would take the lead as Mark Logan (assists to Madison Dunn and Alex Roberts @18:16) would get a deflected pass and wrist the shot five-hole on Skip to make it 2-1. Shots would favour the Bandits 12-11 in the opening period.
Brooks would add to their lead in the second period as Hayden Ursulak (assists to Derek Lodermeier and Jeff Malott @15:06) took a cross crease pass and beat Skip blocker side. Brooks would then make it 4-1 as Alex Roberts (unassisted @17:40) took the puck at center ice and drove in and beating Skip five-hole. The Dragons would answer as Rory Davidson (unassisted @18:45) would pick a pass off in the slot and beat Davies five-hole to make it 4-2 Bandits after two periods. The shots favoured the Bandits 13-5 in the period and 26-16 after two.
The Dragons would get within one on the power play as Reid Nemeth (assists to Hunter Mills and Ryan Suchorab @1:30) was left alone in front of the net and jammed the puck five-hole on Davies. The Bandits would restore their two goal lead when Mark Logan (assists to Adam Baughman and Shane Bear @15:23) would tip in a point shot from Baughman to make it 5-3. Just 43 seconds after that the Dragons would get within one again as Dakota Zaharichuk (assist to Mitchell Cook @16:06) knocked the puck out of the air and into the back of the net to make it 5-4. Just 26 seconds after that the Bandits would get some insurance as Mark Logan (assists to Adam Baughman and Alex Roberts @16:32) would complete the hat trick sliding the puck five-hole on Skip. Ryker Leer sets up three goals as the Kodiaks defeat the Canucks 5-2.
The Kodiaks would get the lone goal of the first period as TJ Brown (assists to Ryker Leer and Tanner Youghans @16:43) who was the trailer would rifle a shot from the right faceoff circle beating Canucks (starting) goaltender glove side on the power play. Shots favoured the Kodiaks 10-7 in the opening period.
There was plenty of scoring in the second period, and it started with the Canucks tying the game at 1-1 as Hayden Dawes (assist to Trent Geiger @5:16) would capitalize on a rebound beating Kodiaks (starting) goaltender Devin McDonald. The Kodiaks would retake the lead as Nelson Gadoury (assists to Jody Sick and Ryker Leer @12:27) walked in front of the net and wristed a shot glove side on Cooper. Camrose would add to their lead on the power play as Tanner Younghans (assists t Jody Sick and Ryker Leer @16:38) took a cross crease pass and slid the puck into the back of the goal. Camrose would finish off the scoring in the period just 1:19 later as Brett Njaa (Assists to Adam deChamplain and Mackenzie Watson @17:57) was left all alone in front of the goal and would beat Cooper over the blocker. Shots favoured the Kodiaks 21-3 in the period and 31-10 after two.
The Canucks would trim the deficit to two early in the third period on the power play as Owen Johnson (assists to Hayden Dawes and Logan Franz @1:02) wristed a shot short side from the right faceoff circle. Camrose would get some insurance midway through the period as Nelson Gadoury (assists to Brett Njaa and Cole McBride @10:41) backhanded a shot five-hole on Cooper that would just trickle across the line to make it 5-2. Shots favoured the Kodiaks 13-10 in the period and 44-20 in the hockey game.

Calgary Mustangs (1-3-0) @ Okotoks Oilers (1-3-1)
Datani makes 43 saves as Mustangs edge Oilers 4-3 in a shootout (2-1 in SO).
Okotoks would get the lone goal of the first period as Frankie Spellman (assists to Nolan Thompson and Kyle Krabben @13:39) on the power play would fire a quick shot from the right faceoff circle to beat Mustangs (starting) goaltender Ravi Dattani. Shots favoured the Oilers 13-5 in the opening period.
The Mustangs would get the lone goal of the second period to tie the game at 1-1 on the power play as Cole Threndyle (assists to Phelan Shaw and Chandler Irvin @17:17) finished a two on one breakaway beating Oilers (starting) goaltender Devon Fordyce blocker side. Shots favoured the Oilers 13-10 in the period and 26-15 after two.
The Mustangs would get their first lead of the night midway through the third period as Zach McNeill (assist to Kobe Eagletail @9:10) rolled a shot from the right faceoff circle that would trickle past Fordyce. The Oilers would answer back as Mitch Collett (assists to Connor Chambers and Kelton Driedger@11:03) wristed a shot from the right faceoff circle beating Dattani over the glove hand. The Mustangs would retake the lead as Adam Berg (assists to Josh Betinol and Kylor Wall @18:18) took the puck from the top of the crease to the faceoff circle and flipped the puck over Fordyce to give Calgary a 3-2 lead. Once again the Oilers would answer this time with an extra attacker, Frankie Spellman (assists to Mitch Collett and Rhett Gardner @19:53) would tap in the rebound. Shots favoured the Oilers 13-8 in the period and 39-23 in the hockey game.
Neither team was able to score in overtime, so it was off to a shootout. Shots favoured the Oilers 7-0 in overtime and 46-23 in the hockey game.
In the Shootout both Phelan Shaw and Cole Threndyle would score for the Mustangs while Mitch Collett would score for the Oilers, however, Jake Dube and Rhett Gardner were stopped.
The Mustangs will return home on September 23rd to take on the Drumheller Dragons. Okotoks will open up a four game road trip (includes showcase weekend) on September 23rd in Canmore.

Drayton Valley Thunder (1-2-1) @ Spruce Grove Saints (4-1-1)
Jarid Hauptman's three points help Saints beat Thunder 6-1.
The Saints would open the scoring when Cole Nicholson (assists to Jake Mykitiuk and Jarid Hauptman @12:22) blasted a shot from the blue line that would beat Thunder (starting) goaltender Marc-Olivier Daigle to make it 1-0. The Saints would add to their lead later in the period as Jake Mykitiuk (assists to Riley Simpson and Jarid Hauptman @18:34) shot would be slowed down by Daigle but continue to roll into the net to make it 2-0. Saints would outshoot the Thunder 14-10 in the period.
Drayton Valley would get on the board in the second when Joseph Leonidas (unassisted @7:10) put a shot towards the net that would go over Saints (starting) goaltender Tanner McCorriston's blocker. Spruce Grove would get that goal back late in the period when Jarid Hauptman (assist to Riley Simpson @18:28) snapped a shot over Daigle's blocker. Just 42 seconds Colton Leiter (assist to Nicolas Correale @19:10) would add to the Saints lead when he took a backdoor feed and scored five-hole on Daigle. Shots favoured the Saints 16-7 in the period and 30-16 after two.
The Saints kept pushing in the third as Jordan Thomas (assist to Colton Leiter @1:30) went forehand, backhand and beat Daigle over his blocker to make it 5-1. The Saints would cap off the scoring late in the third period as Josh Harris (unassisted @18:21) potted the puck after a bizarre bounce off the end boards caught Daigle out of possition. Shots favoured the Saints 11-6 in the period and 41-22 in the hockey game.
Drayton Valley will continue their four game road trip on September 25th (showcase weekend) against the Grizzlys. The Saints will take on Drumheller on September 25th (showcase weekend) for their next game.

Grande Prairie Storm (3-2-0) @ Bonnyville Pontiacs (1-1-1)
Reid Kilburn turns away all 19 shots as Pontiacs shutout Storm 3-0.
The Pontiacs would open the scoring when Holden Daley (assists to Dillan McCombie and Brinson Pasichnuk @10:14) wristed a shot from the blue line that beat Grande Prairie (starting) goaltender Liam McLeod five-hole. The Pontiacs would add to their lead on the power play as Alden Dupuis (assist to Ryan Black @15:04) deflected the shot from black under the blocker of McLeod. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 22-4 in the period.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 11-8 in the period and 33-12 in the hockey game.
The Pontiacs would finish off the scoring midway through the third period as Luke Mahura (assist to Mark Zvonkovic @11:23) banged in a rebound to make it 3-0. Shots favoured the Pontiacs 11-7 in the third period and 44-19 in the hockey game.

Olds Grizzlys (3-1-1) @ Fort McMurray Oil Barons (4-1-0)
Four goals from Trent Lofthouse lifts Oil Barons to 6-3 victory over Grizzlys.
Fort McMurray would open the scoring as Trent Lofthouse (assist to Adam Durkee @3:58) picked the far corner on Grizzlys (starting) goaltender Jordan Piccolino. Trent Lofthouse (assist Adam Durkee @12:15) went back to work later in the period as he would score his second of the period beating Piccolino over the glove from the top of the slot. Shots favoured the Oil Barons 12-7 in the period.
In the second Trent Lofthouse (unassisted @3:23) would complete the hat trick putting the shot over a downed Piccolino. The Grizzlys would get on the board when James Miller (assists to Austin Kernahan and BJ Duffin @8:41) wristed a shot from the point that would beat Oil Barons (starting) goaltender Zach Fortin. The Grizzlys would keep pressing and draw within one as Josh Zablocki (assist to Landon Kletke @13:52) finishes off a two on one breakaway beating Fortin blocker side. Shots favoured the Grizzlys 12-7 in the period, and both teams had 19 shots in the hockey game.
The Oil Barons would retake their two goal lead when Michael Sauer (assists to Jackson McKinstry and Zach Wittenburg @4:22) fired a shot just under the crossbar on the power play. The Grizzlys would get that goal back as Kyle Moore (unassisted @8:04) took the puck away from Fortin and stuffed the puck into the net. Fort McMurray would push back though Trent Lofthouse (unassisted @18:53) would score his fourth of the game keeping the puck on a two on one going high blocker side. Just seven seconds later Mitchell Vanderlaan (unassisted @19:00) would cap off the scoring taking advantage of a miscue by Piccolino to make it 6-3. Both teams would fire 12 shots in the period and finish the game with 31 shots apiece.
Olds will wrap up their two game north road trip on September 21st in Sherwood Park. Fort McMurray will wrap up their two game home stand on September 21st against the Canmore Eagles.

Okotoks Oilers (1-2-1) @ Brooks Bandits (1-1-0)
Fordyce's 32 saves not enough for Oilers as Bandits pickup a 4-2 win.
The Oilers would open the scoring when Stephen Doane (assist to Frankie Spellman @5:20) redirected a centering pass five-hole on Bandits (starting) goaltender Josh Davies. The Bandits would answer when last weekend's hero Austin Plevy (assists to Shane Bear and Adam Baughman @9:38) got sprung on a breakaway and deked out Oilers (starting) goaltender Devon Fordyce. Brooks would then get their first lead of the night while shorthanded as Derek Lodermiere (assists to Jeff Malott and Nathan Bizeau @16:18) took a cross ice pass and backhanded a shot five-hole on Fordyce to make it 2-1 after one. Shots favored the Bandits 12-10 in the opening period.
The Bandits would extend their lead with the only goal of the second period as Blake Luscombe (assists to Anthony Paskaruk and Jesse Pereira @13:48) redirected a cross ice pass on the power play to make it 3-1 after two. Shots favoured the Bandits 12-6 in the period and 24-16 after two periods.
The Oilers would draw within one in the third period when Jordan Evans (assists to Austin Shmoorkoff and Kevin Jenken @7:54) would one time a shot into the back of the net to make it 3-2. Brooks would get some insurance when Alex Roberts (assists to Madison Dunn and Mark Logan @16:01) would bang in a rebound to give the Bandits a 4-2 lead.
