Western Canada Cup – Day Two Recap

Western Canada Cup Day 2 had just one AJHL team in action on Sunday.

Fort McMurray Oil Barons (AJHL) vs. Penticton Vees (BCHL)
The BCHL champions continued to flex their muscles at the Western Canada Cup with a 6-0 shutout of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
Penticton would get three early goals to take a 3-0 lead. Tyson Jost (assist to Patrick Newell @1:51) one-timed his fourth of the tournament past Oil Barons (starting) goaltender Brett Lewchuk.  Dante Fabbro (assists to Matthew Serratore and Mike Lee @5:12) finished off a four on two snapping his first of the WCC past Lewchuk. Just 32 seconds after that Tyson Jost (assists to Demico Hannoun and Miles Gendron @5:44) ripped his second of the night and fifth of the tournament past Lewchuk. Shots were 18-9 Vees.
Penticton would get the lone goal in the second to extend their lead to 4-0. Mitch Newsome (assists to Patrick Sexton and Lewis Zerter-Gossage @17:17) wristed his first of the round robin off the far post on Lewchuk. Shots favored the Vess 13-8 in the second and 31-17 in the hockey game.
Penticton would add two more goals in the third to earn a 6-0 victory. On the power play, the Vees would make it 5-0. Connor Chartier (assists to Mike Lee and Dante Fabbro @15:22) walked in front, and wristed a shot over the glove of Lewchuk for his second of the tournament. Connor Chartier (assists to Steen Cooper and Dakota Conroy @18:30) on a backdoor feed would tap his second of the night and third of the  round robin past Lewchuk. Shots favored Penticton 15-6 in the third and 46-23 overall.
Fort McMurray will take on Spruce Grove on Tuesday night.
Elsewhere in the Crescent Point Western Canada Cup: Portage Terriers evened their record to 1-1 following a 6-3 win over the Melfort Mustangs, who dropped to 0-1 on the tournament.
