Williams Commits to Marian University

The Brooks Bandits are proud to announce 19 year old Forward Andy Williams has committed to play at Marian University of the NCAA Division III. Located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin the Sabers play in the MCHA and are off to a 5-3-0 start to the 2010 season.

Andy is from Lacombe, Alberta and grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown before joining the Red Deer minor hockey system. Andy is in his second season with the Bandits and previous to that he played for the Midget AAA Red Deer Rebels and enjoyed a successful end to his minor hockey days. Andy, following in the footsteps of older brother Matt, had signed with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons before a trade in 2008 brought the pair to Brooks. Although Andy was still playing Midget the Bandits were excited to acquire his talent for the upcoming seasons.

Andy will once again have the opportunity to play with his older brother at Marian University. Matt Williams joined the Sabers program this season and is enjoying his new surroundings with 6 points in his first 8 games.

Head Coach/GM Ryan Papaioannou, “There aren’t enough descriptors for the contribution Andy makes to our hockey club. He is the type of player who will be sadly missed upon his graduation to Marian. Andy has played an important role on our penalty kill this season along with numerous key defensive minutes. His dressing room attitude and serious approach to each day have earned him this opportunity to continue playing in the NCAA. Andy’s positive outreach within the community has also made him a fan favorite. The Bandits organization would like to congratulate the Williams family on this accomplishment and thank them for allowing both Matt and Andy to be a part of the Brooks community.”

Andy is the second Bandit to commit this season. Forward Riley Simpson recently committed to Ohio State University.
