Spruce Grove Saints forward Cody Pisarczyk is the Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week and teammate Jacob Cossette is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week following an impressive weekend at the 2022 AJHL Showcase.
Pisarczyk (Airdrie, AB) recorded seven points (3G, 4A) over three games played from September 26th – October 2nd, including a five-point performance in two games at the AJHL Showcase. Cossette (LaRonge, SK) led all AJHL rookies with a six-point week (3G, 3A) in three Saints victories.
The Saints exploded offensively on September 28th with an 11-4 win over the Whitecourt Wolverines. Cossette (2004) scored two goals and an assist while Pisarczyk (2004) recorded two assists. Spruce Grove opened the AJHL Showcase on September 30th by stealing a 4-3 overtime final against the Calgary Canucks. Pisarczyk scored the game tying goal to send the match into overtime and added an assist in the win as did Cossette.
In the final game of the weekend, Pisarczyk earned the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game Award with two goals and an assist in a 6-2 win over the Camrose Kodiaks. Cossette recorded his fourth goal and fourth assist of the season in the game to start his rookie campaign as an AJHL forward with eight points in just five games.
Spruce Grove opened the season with a 6-1 record to lead the Viterra AJHL North Division as of October 2nd, 2022.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Nick Wolfenberg of the Okotoks Oilers. The 2004 born defenceman recorded six points (2G, 4A) in three games played last week.
Wolfenberg (Calgary, AB) recorded three consecutive two-point games, starting with a goal and an assist on September 27th as the Oilers opened the week with a 4-2 win in Calgary. On September 30th, Nick added two assists in a close fought 4-3 loss to the Bonnyville Pontiacs, then went on to score a goal and an assist the following day in a 7-0 shutout of the Drayton Valley Thunder.
In his second season with the Okotoks Oilers, Wolfenberg currently leads the team with nine points (4G, 5A).
