Wolverines announce new Head Coach

Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines Jr. A Hockey Club is excited to announce Shawn Martin as the third Head Coach / General Manager in franchise history. Originally from Wainwright, Alberta, Martin brings a wealth of experience as both a coach and a player.

A familiar face behind the Wolverines bench, Shawn has served as Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager for the Whitecourt Wolverines in the past two seasons. Martin played four years in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) at Grant MacEwan and NAIT.  Shawn then played two years of Minor Professional Hockey in the United States. Following his playing career, he moved behind the bench in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, which included the role of Assistant Coach and other various duties with the St. Albert Steel, Grande Prairie Storm and Sherwood Park Crusaders. Before coming to Whitecourt, Shawn was the Head Coach and General Manager for the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) for four seasons.

“Tracy and myself are excited to have Shawn take over as Head coach and General Manager. We believe building within the Wolverines organization on and off the ice. Shawn brings a vision similar to what we want and expect moving forward. We would like to welcome Shawn and Sadie to Whitecourt,” said President/Owner of the Whitecourt Wolverines Brent Stark.

“I am very excited to accept this position offered to me by the Stark Sport Society. The Whitecourt Wolverines are a first-class organization to work with, and I am looking forward to building this program. I do believe my experience coaching Junior A hockey over the past 12 years will help lead the Wolverines into this new era. My wife Sadie and I are excited to join the community and embrace our great fan base,” said Head Coach Shawn Martin.
