The City of Brooks, on behalf of the Brooks Bandits, are proud to announce that a 2012 IIHF Word Junior Championship pre-tournament game between Latvia and Denmark will be held in Brooks on December 22nd, 2011.
Edmonton and Calgary are acting as co-hosts for the World Junior Championship and Brooks is honoured to have been chosen by Hockey Canada as a site for a pre-tournament game.
“City Council is ecstatic about this upcoming opportunity to show off our community and we are very proud to have a facility capable of hosting the game” says City of Brooks Mayor Martin Shields. “I hope this is the first of many high profile events held in Brooks” he adds.
“The Brooks Bandits, proud members of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, are thrilled to be working with Hockey Canada to bring World Junior Hockey to Brooks for our fans. This is an opportunity for our hockey club and community to be cast into an international spotlight and for our players to act as ambassadors for Canada” said Brooks Bandits President Paul Seaton on behalf of the Brooks Bandits Board of Directors.
The Brooks Bandits organization, along with City officials, hope to see the Centennial Regional Arena packed with hockey fans enjoying this competition between Latvia and Denmark.
The community will also be playing host to the Latvian Team while they are in Canada. The City of Brooks and the Centennial Regional Arena will be home to these athletes for several days as they prepare to face the world in the World Junior Championship. The team will have the opportunity to practice at the CRA and potentially do some touring of the region.
