Young Selected by San Jose Sharks in 2020 NHL Draft

The Canmore Eagles are very excited to announce that forward Alex Young has been selected 196th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2020 NHL Draft.

The native of Calgary, Alberta had a successful Junior career with the Canmore Eagles before joining the Colgate Men?s hockey program for the 2020-21 season.

The Eagles center totaled 206 points in 172 AJHL career games.   Alex most recently tallied 82 points by 36 goals and 46 assists in 53 regular season games.   After being named Rookie of the Year in 2017-2018, Young went on to be an AJHL South Division All-Star Team member in both 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.

The Young family has been a big part of the organization over the past five seasons with both Colton and Alex playing for the team, and will continue to be as younger brother Kyle is currently on the roster.

“We couldn?t be happier for the entire family, they are very deserving of this. We congratulate Alex on this accomplishment and wish him all the best in his future,” added Eagles Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne.

Alex put together a very impressive 2019-2020 season, finishing 9th in League scoring and was voted Canmore Eagles M.V.P. He opened the season as a member of Team AJHL at the 2019 Junior Club World Cup in Russia, where he was voted the tournament’s Best Forward.   He was also selected to play in the 2020 CJHL Top Prospects Game and was voted Player of the Game, as well as took part in the 2019 World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, BC.
