CALGARY, Alberta – The Gongshow CJHL 3 Stars for the month of January 2015 are Brett Zarowny (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL), Justin Laforest (Portage Terriers, MJHL) and Brady Wiffen (Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL).
1st STAR – BRETT ZAROWNY, G, Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL (8 GP, 8 W, 0 L, 3 SO, 1.35 GAA, .939 S%)
Brett Zarowny of the Spruce Grove Saints posted a flawless 8-0-0 record during the month of January, including 3 shutout victories and a minimal 1.35 GAA. Brett Zarowny (Elk Point, AB) was awarded the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game three times in January. He was also selected as the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the opening week of January 2015. The 19 year-old goaltender is in his first year with the Saints. Zarowny is second amongst AJHL goaltenders with a 1.92 GAA and 24 wins (as of January 31, 2015). The Spruce Grove Saints are on an impressive 16 game winning streak and have clinched 1st spot in the Viterra AJHL North Division.
2nd STAR – JUSTIN LAFOREST, G, Portage Terriers, MJHL (7 GP, 7 W, 0 L, 3 SO, 1.57 GAA, .941 S%)
Justin Laforest of the Portage Terriers was on a tear this past month. Laforest, 19, was flawless for the Terriers reflected in a perfect 7-0 record. The native of Carlton Place, Ont., put a big exclamation mark on his record with three shutout performances. The Terriers have been ranked No. 1 in the CJHL for several months; due in large part to the play of goaltender Laforest, who posted an oustanding 1.57 GAA in January and .941 save percentage.
3rd STAR – BRADY WIFFEN, F, Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL (11 GP, 14 G, 7 A, 21 PTS, 1.91 PPG)
Trenton Golden Hawks alternate captain Brady Wiffen recorded a league-high 14 goals, along with 21 points, in 11 games played this past month. The OJHL’s second leading scorer, Wiffen continued his torrid scoring pace throughout January, firing home 14 goals to lead the entire league with 44 on the season. His 21 points in the month ranked second and consisted of a five point game, a four point game with a hat trick and eight multi-point games. Wiffen notched three game-winners, including both in back-to-back victories over division rival Whitby, to lead the Golden Hawks to a nearly perfect 10-0-1 record on the month, vaulting them back into contention for the overall regular season title.
