AJHL Announces Hiring of Vice-President Hockey Operations

The Alberta Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce the hiring of Fran Gow as Vice-President of Hockey Operations.  In the newly created position, Gow will be responsible for managing player registration and movement, and will act as the main liaison between the League, AJHL coaches, and Hockey Alberta.  Gow will officially begin the new role on June 1st, 2013.

“I am pleased to welcome Fran to the AJHL Staff,” said AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk.  “This addition solidifies a group that I have complete confidence in to lead the Alberta Junior Hockey League into its' 50th season.”

“Fran's wealth of experience in the AJHL is a valuable asset to this position and his inner knowledge of our game will contribute to ensuring that we are accountable to our member clubs, our athletes and our partners. Fran will play an essential role in our objective to take a proactive approach to the day-to-day operations of our League and to ensure that the AJHL is continuously evolving.”

Gow is one of the most successful coaches in the history of the AJHL and has coached over 1,000 regular season games since he joined the AJHL as a coach in 1993.  He has won three AJHL Championships, one Doyle Cup Championship, and the RBC Cup National Championship.

“I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of the future of the AJHL and assist in the growth of the league,” stated Fran Gow. “The AJHL provides it athletes with opportunities to develop their skills while being exposed to next level hockey advancement.  As we grow and improve the League our players will benefit.  I look forward to working with the coaches, league administrators and AJHL Board of Governors in this new role.”

Gow recently resigned as General Manager and Head Coach of the Drayton Valley Thunder.  Fran Gow, his wife Sherri and son Brennan, will be relocating for the start of the 2013-2014 AJHL season.
