ATWILL, PAYNE AND ZAREMBA NAMED WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

 

The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Alex Atwill of the Grande Prairie Storm with six points and a hat trick from October 16th-22nd.

The Storm extended their ongoing win streak to four games last week and Alex Atwill (Thunder Bay, ON) scored three goals and three assists in the two-game homestand.   The 2003-born forward had two assists in a 6-1 defeat of the visiting Canmore Eagles on October 21st.  He opened the scoring versus the Olds Grizzlys on October 22nd then went on to record a hat trick and another assist in a 7-3 final.

In Atwill’s third AJHL season, he tied for second in league scoring with 24 points (10G, 14A) and leads the Storm.

Dominic Payne of the Sherwood Park Crusaders is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.  The 2004-born defenceman collected five points (1G, 4A) in three wins as the Crusaders extended their winning streak to 10 games last week.

Payne (Vancouver, BC) recorded an assist on the game winning goal versus the Olds Grizzlys on October 18th, then scored a goal and added two assists, including an assist on the game winner, on October 21st versus the Okotoks Oilers.  The Canisius College (NCAA) commit wrapped up the week with an assist in a 9-2 defeat of the Calgary Canucks.

Payne has already reached his point total from last season and is tied for 13th in AJHL scoring with 17 points (3G, 14A).

Crusaders teammate Ryan Zaremba is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week following a five-point performance with a goal and four assists.  Zaremba (2006) had two assists in the 6-1 home win over Okotoks on October 21st and a three-point game versus Calgary on October 22nd.   Ryan recorded a point in each period with a goal and two assists in the win over the Canucks.

Ryan Zaremba (Edmonton, AB) is tied for third amongst all rookies with 11 points (2G, 9A) in 14 games played.  He is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth (NCAA) and has been identified on the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List for the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Sherwood Park Crusaders are in a three-way tie for first place in the AJHL with a record of 13-2-0 and 26 points.
