BROOKS, AB – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are proud to announce that 1999-born defenceman Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) has committed to attend and play for Colgate University
Located in Hamilton, New York, the Colgate Raiders play in the NCAA’s Division I ECAC Hockey conference, under 25th-year head coach Don Vaughan. Former Bandit forwards Josh McKechney (Calgary, AB) and Jared Cockrell (Readfield, ME) currently play for the Raiders, while Scanlin’s teammate Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) is also committed to the school.
“Brandon has made an immediate impact to our program,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “His size and ability with the puck are strong assets along with a tremendous ability to think the game.
“More importantly, he's brought a great work ethic and attitude to our dressing room,” he added. “We are excited for Brandon and his family to have achieved this goal in such a short time in Brooks.”
Scanlin, 18, joined the Bandits this season after two standout years with the Brantford 99ers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), where he recorded 57 points (6 goals, 51 assists) in 99 games over two seasons, and was named to the Midwestern Second All-Star Team in his debut season in 2015-16.
This year, in his first season of Junior A competition, Scanlin has recorded 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) in 21 games as a Bandit, frequently featuring on a pairing with team captain Dennis Cesana (Providence, RI).
Scanlin is the 8th Bandit on the current team roster committed to an NCAA Division I school, joining:

• Matt Cassidy (Quinnipiac University)
• Simon Boyko (University of Vermont)
• Dennis Cesana (Michigan State University)
