Brooks Bandits Capture Second Consecutive Regular Season Title

The Brooks Bandits have won the Dave Duchak Trophy as the AJHL Regular Season Champions for the second consecutive season.  The Bandits completed a record breaking regular season with a record of 53-4-3 and 109 points.

The 2012-2013 Bandits set a new AJHL record for Most Wins in a Single Season (53) and Most Points in a Single Season (109).  The 2009-2010 Spruce Grove Saints held the previous record with 108 points and shared the record for Most Wins with the 1999-2000 Fort McMurray Oil Barons (52).  Brooks has also tied the League Record for Fewest Losses in a Single Season (4); a record also held by the 2009-2010 Saints and the 1993-1994 Olds Grizzlys.

The Brooks Bandits have set franchise records for Most Points in the Standings (109) and Most Wins with (53), surpassing their records set just last year with a regular season finish of  47-7-6 and 100 points.    Goaltender Michael Fredrick now holds the club record for Most Shutouts in a Single Season with 7.

Two members of the Brooks Bandits are finalists for the 2013 AJHL League Awards.  The finalists include: Cam Maclise (MVP) and Ryan Papaioannou (Coach of the Year).  The 2013 League Award Winners will be announced on Tuesday, March 5th, 2013.

The Canadian Junior Hockey League Top 20 Weekly Rankings posted the Brooks Bandits at number one for 21 consecutive weeks, beginning on October 1st, 2012.

Brooks will enjoy a first round bye in the 2013 AJHL Gas Drive Playoffs after finishing the regular season atop the South Division.  The Spruce Grove Saints have earned the bye in the AJHL North Division.  The top seven teams in each division qualify for the 2013 AJHL Playoffs with the highest ranked seed awarded home ice advantage. 

David Duchak was the first Commissioner of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.  Hockey Alberta and the Hockey Alberta Foundation  inducted David Duchak into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009.

The 2013 AJHL Gas Drive Cup Playoff Schedule will be available on the AJHL website www.AJHL.ca once the 2012-2013 regular season concludes on March 2nd.   Each division will playoff to determine a divisional champion at the conclusion of Round Three in the 2013 AJHL Playoffs.  The North Division Champion and the South Division Champion will then compete in the League Final for the 2013 AJHL Gas Drive Cup.
