Bruneski Commits to the University of Maine

The Drumheller Dragons are excited to announce that 19-year-old defenseman Dawson Bruneski has committed to the University of Maine Black Bears for the Fall of 2019. The Black Bears compete in the Hockey East Conference of NCAA Division I College Hockey.

Dawson Bruneski was acquired by the Drumheller Dragons from the Whitecourt Wolverines during the 2016/17 season. The 5’11 right shot defenseman from Camrose, Alberta started his junior career at the age of 16 playing forward with the Wolverines. In 88 games played, Bruneski contributed 9 goals and 23 points including 200 minutes in penalties. Since arriving in Drumheller, Bruneski successfully transformed his game to the defense position and in 96 games, he earned 8 goals, 41 points and 167 penalty minutes.

“We are ecstatic for the opportunity Dawson has earned with the Black Bears,” stated Coach Kevin Hasselberg. “This is a young man that has dedicated himself in the off-season and relentlessly prepared daily to achieve this goal. Bruno always put the team ahead of himself and did what ever the team needed to achieve success. Maine has added a great player and tremendous character to their dressing room.”

The Drumheller Dragons would like to congratulate Dawson and the Bruneski family with this opportunity and wish him continued success in his academic and athletic pursuits.
