The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Mirko Buttazzoni of the Brooks Bandits with a nine-point (2G, 7A) performance from November 13th-19th, 2023. Mirko recorded three multi-point games over the week and extended his current point streak to 12 points in four games.
Mirko Buttazzoni (Langley, BC) was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game with a goal and three assists on November 15th in a 7-1 win over the Canmore Eagles. On November 18th, the 2004-born forward added two assists as the Bandits defeated the Spruce Grove Saints 4-3 in OT. The Bandits would record another lopsided win on November 19th in a 10-3 defeat of the Drayton Valley Thunder and a three-point (1G, 2A) game for Buttazzoni.
The Clarkson University (NCAA) commit leads the Bandits and is third in AJHL scoring with 35 points (12G, 23A).
The Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week is Bandits teammate Logan Sawyer. The 2006 rookie forward extended his active point streak to six games with seven points (3G, 4A) in three games last week.
Logan Sawyer (Calgary, AB) added two assists versus Canmore on November 15th and scored a goal in the overtime victory in Spruce Grove on November 18th. He capped off the week with the game winning goal and a four-point (2G, 2A) night as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game on November 19th in Drayon Valley.
Logan Sawyer (Providence College – NCAA) leads all AJHL rookies with 31 points (14G, 17A) and is tied for 10th overall in the AJHL. Sawyer was previously awarded as the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week in October 2023.
The Brooks Bandits lead the Canalta Hotel AJHL Standings with a record of 23-3-0 (W-L-OTL) and have built an eight-game win streak.
Sam Hall of the Okotoks Oilers is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. The 2004-born defenceman collected five points (1G, 4A) in three consecutive overtime games for the Oilers.
The week opened with a tight 3-2 overtime loss to the Calgary Canucks on November 14th in which Hall recorded an assist on the game tying goal for the Oilers. Hall (Oldwick, NJ) recorded another assist on November 17th when the Oilers would have a better fate resulting in a 4-3 overtime win versus the Blackfalds Bulldogs. The Oilers were once again victorious in the second game of a double header against the Bulldogs with a 5-4 overtime result. Hall scored his third goal of the season and added two assists in the game, including a helper on the OT winner.
Hall is enjoying a four-game point streak and has 13 points (3G, 10A) in his first AJHL season. The Oilers are 4-0-1 in their last five games and sit fourth in the Canalta Hotel AJHL Standings.
