Critical Dates

2023-24 Season

  • August 24, 2023 – AJHL Exhibition Season Opens
  • September 15, 2023 – AJHL Regular Season Opens
  • September 27 – October 1, 2023 – No trades may be consummated from Wednesday to Sunday of the AJHL Showcase week.
  • September 27 – September 30, 2023 – AJHL Showcase @ Calgary, AB
  • October 2023 – Minor Aged Player Release – Members that release minor hockey aged players after the team has played 12 AJHL Regular Season games within the current season, will be subject to fine, unless there is unanimous consent of player, parent, Hockey Alberta and the player’s local minor hockey association.
  • October 15, 2023 – Each team has the right to unilaterally card any eligible player that was carded on January 10 of the previous season. Any player eligible to be carded from the previous season’s roster on January 10 that is not carded by midnight on October 15 of the AJHL Regular Season becomes a ‘free agent’.
  • November 22, 2023 – AJHL Semi-Annual Meeting
  • December 10–17, 2023 – World Junior A Challenge @ Truro, NS
  • December 10, 2023 – January 1, 2024 – CJHL Trade Freeze – No trades may be consummated from 9:00pm EST December 10 to 12:00pm EST January 1.
  • December 22-28, 2023 – AJHL Trade Freeze – No trades may be consummated from December 22 to December 28.
  • January 9, 2024 – Affiliation deadline for all AJHL teams.
  • January 10, 2024 – CJHL Trade Deadline 4:00pm MST – All Junior teams must reduce their roster to no more than 25 players,
  • January 10 – June 1, 2024 – No trades may be consummated from January 11 to June 1.
  • January 11, 2024 – The AJHL Letter of Intent (LOI) is valid for the time period starting January 11 through the opening of the Hockey Canada Registration (HCR) System.
  • March 2, 2024 – End of AJHL Regular Season

 

Play-In: At the conclusion of the 2023-24 regular season, the top five teams will automatically advance to the 2024 Inter Pipeline Cup AJHL Playoffs, while the bottom six teams will square off in a best of five play-in series (6 vs. 11, 7 vs. 10, and 8 vs.9). The winners of the play-in series will then fill spots six through eight in the opening round of the AJHL Playoffs.

  • Round One: All teams will be re-seeded and the first-place team will play the lowest place team in a best-of-seven series (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5).
